The 40th Okinawan Festival(link is external) is planned for September 3-4, 2022 at the Hawaii Convention Center. The Hawaii United Okinawa Association(link is external) (HUOA) is excited to be back in-person after doing a virtual festival for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Okinawan Festival’s theme is “Sharing Uchinanchu Aloha” and it is one of the largest ethnic festivals in the state of Hawaii. As a family-oriented cultural festival, the Okinawan Festival showcases Hawaii’s multi-ethnic culture and invites locals and visitors alike to join in the festivities featuring Okinawan music and performing arts, cultural education, arts and crafts, historical exhibits, craft vendors, genealogy research, Okinawan-themed children’s games and of course food booths with Okinawan cuisine and local favorites such as andagi.

Tourists looking for a unique cultural experience are never disappointed at the Okinawan Festival, as it has consistently been an authentic event showcasing the richness of Hawaii’s multicultural population. Visitors love the opportunity to interact with our local volunteers at the various booths and exhibits. The Okinawan Festival is truly a community-based event that provides both locals and visitors the chance to experience the Okinawan community in Hawaii.
