Itsukushima, also known as Miyajima, is a small island in Hiroshima Bay, western Japan. It is known for its forests and ancient temples. Just offshore, the giant, orange Great Torii Gate is partially submerged at high tide. It marks the entrance to the Itsukushima Shrine, which was first built in the 12th century. Nearby, the Museum of History and Folklore

Weather and Events:
Itsukushima is a year-round destination with hot, wet summers (Jun–Sep) and mild winters (Dec–Feb). The island’s annual Oyster Festival (Feb) celebrates this local delicacy. The Kiyomori Shrine Festival (Mar) commemorates the founder of Itsukushima Shrine with a traditional dance performance. During the Miyajima by the Sea Fireworks Festival (Aug), the waters around the island are lit up by vibrant pyrotechnics.
