In the previous episode of Slurp’s Up, Frank checked out Mazulu Halal Beef Noodle in Jinbocho. This time he’s at another popular shop for halal ramen in Tokyo: Ayam-YA Halal Ramen in Okachimachi.

Ayam-YA specializes in chicken-based ramen, with shoyu (soy sauce) and shio (salt) based options. Frank selects their spicy tori (chicken) ramen, with a shio (salt) base and a soft-boiled egg. Their creamy chicken ramen is 100% halal, made without pork or alcohol. This very concentrated style of chicken ramen is called “tori paitan,” and is made by boiling the chicken bones for hours and hours until it reaches a creamy, milky consistency similar to tonkotsu style ramen. Toppings include green and white negi, raw onion, and chicken chashu.

    I have some strong objections towards the ethics of Halal food & any other food prepared for religious sensibilities. That said, the chicken looked much better.

I’m very curious about this topic and wondering if you can direct me to an establishment in Japan? Soon (by Nov) will be moving to join my wife in Japan to retire. I’ve traveled on business to Japan for over 40 years. During this time i have only come across 1 Mexican restaurant over all the years.
