福岡城（ふくおかじょう）は、福岡市の中心部にあった城郭跡で、国の「史跡」に指定され、「日本百名城」の一つに数えられます。
福岡城は、福岡藩初代藩主黒田長政が築いた城で、広大な敷地に47の櫓を配した壮大な城郭でした。

潮見櫓 ( しおみやぐら )は大手門の南に立つ二層の櫓ですが、元は別の場所にあったものが戦後に移築されました。塩見櫓の横にある大手門は本来の位置を保っている唯一の門で、江戸時代には二層の櫓門でしたが現在は一層です。

祈念櫓（きねんやぐら）は北九州市の寺院に移築されていましたが、1983年に福岡城の旧位置に戻されました。
南丸多聞櫓は、現在位置を保っている唯一の櫓で、江戸時代から現存する貴重なものとして国の「重要文化財」に指定されています。
一般に、多聞櫓は防禦のための長塀であり、平素は倉庫等に利用されていたと思われます。

城内には約1,000本の桜が植えられ福岡市内で随一の桜名所となっており、特に天守台から見下ろす桜の森は圧巻です。

Fukuoka Castle is located in the center of Fukuoka City, and the area around the castle is designated as a national historic site and also selected as one of the “100 Great Japanese Castles”.
Fukuoka Castle was built by the first lord of the Fukuoka domain, Kuroda Nagamasa, and was a magnificent castle with 47 turrets in a vast area.

Shiomiyagura is a two-story turret located to the south of the main gate, but it was originally located elsewhere and was relocated after the war. The Ote-mon gate next to Shiomiro is the only gate that still holds its original position, and it was a two-storied gate during the Edo period, but it is one layered gate now.

Kinen Yagura was moved to a temple in Kitakyushu City, but was returned to its original location at Fukuoka Castle in 1983.
Tamon Yagura is the only turret still in its present position, and it has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan as one of the most important existing turrets from the Edo period.
In general, Tamoncho was used as a long wall for defense, and it is thought to have been used as a warehouse in ordinary times.

With about 1,000 cherry trees planted in the castle, it is the best place to see cherry blossoms in Fukuoka City, and the view from the castle tower base is especially breathtaking.
