Get off the retro streetcar at the unmanned Kurumazaki-jinja Station, and you will see Kurumazaki jinja Shrine right in front of you. It is one of the leading sacred power places in Kyoto that offers blessings for good marriage, luck with money, academic achievement, protection from bad luck, and the entertainment.
The “Entertainment shrine” and the “Purification shrine” on the precincts of the shrine are so popular that they have been featured on TV and in magazines. Entertainers and celebrities also visit the shrine in secret. The Tamagaki at the Performing arts is lined with the names of many famous entertainers, from pop idols to musicians, actors, actresses, and comedians. The reason why so many entertainers and celebrities have come to worship at the Performing arts shrine is because the Toei and Shochiku film studios are located nearby.
The “Purification shrine” has a cone-shaped standing sand in the shape of a stone motif, which has the power to purify bad luck and karma related to money, love, appearance, and popularity. It is said to purify the body and mind, so it is visited before going to the main shrine. It is also said that taking a picture of the “purifying shrine” and wearing it at all times will improve one’s luck. “Kinenshinseki,” amulets containing stones that have been purified by the priests, also have sacred power and are sold in the precincts of the shrine. I have one myself.
