Sorakuen garden is a traditional Japanese landscape garden in the heart of Kobe. The garden was completed in the early 20th century as part of the former residence of Kodera Kenkichi, the former mayor of Kobe. Within the grounds of Sorakuen, in addition to a Japanese garden, there is also “The Hassam House”, a Western architectural building and “Old Kodera Horse Stable”, a Western-style stable built during the Meiji period. In addition, Sorakuen Garden is also a famous place to see the thousand-year-old rose (azalea).
