AIRIN District
The Airin area is located in the northern part of Nishinari Ward, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture.
It is a common name for a district with a high concentration of yoseba and simple lodging houses.
It is also called Kamagasaki, the old name of the area. The area used to be unsafe due to many problems such as “riots,” “illegal stalls,” and “illegal dumping,” but after the Nishinari-ku Special Zone Initiative by then Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto to improve the security and environment of Nishinari-ku, the area became safer and more popular as a lodging area for backpackers in recent years due to its low accommodation rates.
Tobita Shinchi
The Nishinari District is a town where sex acts can be performed. Unlike soapland, the area only offers real sex, and although it has been called “Tobita Shinchi Ryotei” since the Anti-Prostitution Law was enforced in 1958, it still retains the atmosphere it had before the changeover. Most of the “ryotei” restaurants have the sign “ryotei,” but their business is the same as it was before 1958.
By ostensibly converting to ryotei[1], they are tacitly approved by the authorities under the guise of a “free love affair” between a guest and a waitress in the ryotei.
Taiyoshi Hyakuban, which is currently operating as a ryotei, is housed in a building originally constructed as a brothel in the mid-Taisho period (1912-1926), and was designated a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan in 2000.
