Japan Trip: Deep in the Forest lies Modern Art…Sezon Museum of Modern Art, Karuizawa, Nagano 55

Though originally established in Tokyo in 1962, the Sezon Museum of Modern Art relocated to Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, in 1981. The museum is the home to both local as well as international artists. The museum focuses on the following three areas: works by modern masters, a selection of contemporary art from abroad, and recent art of progressive Japanese artists.

The museum has a permanent collection but holds three or four special temporary exhibits a year. The temporary exhibitions feature modern and contemporary art. The art displayed are of both classical masters of modern art as well as new and upcoming artists.

Opened: July 5th to November 24th
Closed: Thursdays (April to July and September to November) as well as between special exhibits. The museum is also closed during the winter season.
Hours: 10:00 to 18:00 (July to October)
10; 00 to 17:00 (November)
Note: last entry is 30 minutes before closing
Admission: 1000 yen (Adults)
700yen (University and High School Students)
300yen (Junior High School and Elementary School Students)
