well its a great start but lets wait and see what this travel agency guided individual scheme is. If its extremely restrictive me and a lot of my fellow singaporeans(1 of the few asian countries that can afford japan) will just wait it out .
In my case I would wait longer until government allow tourists to travel freely without tour guide , my girlfriend is living in Japan, and we have been waiting for 2,5 years to, she is Japanese, I’m European and waiting to enter Japan and start our life together, what would you do in my case?

Borders can physically be open at some point in time but japanese people have never been and will be never open to foreigners on their soil. Foreigners are annoying for most, entertaining at best.
As I have already booked my tickets to Japan from Dec 22 to Jan 23, I may choose the latter to reduce any anxiety from the slow relaxation.
Hope Japan doesnt get many tourists until we can freely travel again .I want to be able to once again get on train and like my last few visits decide to go to Morioka for the day then return to Tokyo or elsewhere .I have friends in Japan cant wait to host me again but not until free again .
I’m actually headed to Japan on September 9 on a short stay visa (to visit family), and the 72-hour test being lifted on the 7th was a stroke of luck. It isn’t much but it’s a step in the right direction 🤙🏼

I have an air ticket paid with miles in December and some hotel nights paid with hotel chain points and want to travel with a JR Pass. I'm not very confident a Travel agent would accommodate such a trip and sponsor a ERFS (unless some accept to get paid just to do the ERFS…). I hope Kono Taro's support for Visa waivers restoration will pay off 🤞
