【Higashiyamate Area】
It was the first area in Nagasaki City to become a foreign settlement after the opening of the port of Nagasaki in 1858. Immediately after the area was developed as a settlement, it was mainly used as leased land by American and British traders. Later, when the bay was reclaimed, the foreigners moved to the coastal area, where the American and Portuguese consulates were established and the area was also known as Consulate Hill. After the consulates left, mission schools were established, which are still in existence today.

【Nagasaki Shinchi China Town】
Along with Yokohama and Kobe, it is one of the three major Chinatowns in Japan.
Even during the Edo period (1603-1867) when the country was closed to the outside world, Nagasaki was recognized as a port for trade with China, and at its peak, approximately 10,000 Chinese people lived in Nagasaki City. In the beginning, Chinese residences were limited to old Chinese quarter on the hillsides, but gradually they moved to the present location near the sea.
