This adventure was brought on by an invitation from my school’s principle during the fall of 2020. We went to the village of Okura to have an imonikai, which is a traditional shared meal from the fall harvest. Each prefecture adds different things to the soup. We also assisted in preparing the baked sweet potatoes and as the meal cooked, we went hiking to the nearby dam that his home to japanese “kuri”, chestnuts, which were added to the meal as we hiked. I was also able to take a tour of this traditional japanese house from the heisei era and have my lunch in there.
