Hey everyone!! Welcome to SWITZERLAND!! so excited to be taking you around this country for the next few weeks! Would love some advice on where we should go, eat and see 🙂 thank you!!
The train ride looks stunning! But can you please explain how the ride cost comes to 26 USD? I looked it up and its around 56 CHF. Did you guys get some sort of a pass and just pay the reservation charge?
I used to live in Lausanne for 2 years. The city is beautiful, but I wouldn't say it offers a lot of tourist attractions. But if you decide to visit there, I agree with another comment that you need to check out Sauvabelin, which is a high tower that allows you to see the region around Swiss Romandie and the French Alps (including Mont Blanc) over the other side of Lake Geneva. And you can have a little picnic and eat your lunch in front of la Fondation de l'Hermitage, which is just a short walking distance from Sauvabelin and has a (usually tranquil) grass area that allows you to see Lausanne and the lake quite well. However, I have to say my most preferred spot to see Lausanne is la Colline de Montriond, which is within walking distance from the Lausanne train station, and gives you a more close-up look of Lausanne compared to Sauvabelin. You can also take a boat ride from Lausanne to Yvoire, which is a small but charming Medieval village on the French side of Lake Geneva (when I was there, it was packed with tourists, which made it feel like a Medieval theme park, so you have been warned lol).
If you like hiking, I have a suggestion of a beautiful route that is friendly for someone with a child. You can hike from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren, then take the cable cars to Schilthorn. You will have a lot of time to take in the beautiful scenery, which is especially gorgeous when you are around Mürren. If I remember correctly, this is the route that my friend and I took when we visited Lauterbrunnen in winter 2015. Since it was winter, part of the route was icy and hence not very easy for me to manage, but it should be very manageable in summer.
Wow, Bernina express first class ticket for 26usd. Great deal. Also, I’m glad you got the carriage for yourself and that Hunter enjoyed the ride. Tbh, I wasn’t too impressed by the St Moritz town when I visited in the winter. It has awesome ski slopes, but the town itself & the lake looks nicer in the summer-time. I look forward to your upcoming Switzerland adventures. 😀
Switzerland has INCREDIBLE Christmas markets! In December 2019, spent time in Interlaken, Lausanne (day trip to Montreux), Zermatt, Basel (day trip), and Lucerne (our favorite). From Interlaken, took the train to Jungfraujoch (trip up through Grindelwald, trip back through Lauterbrunnen). Traveled from Zermatt to St. Moritz on the Glacier Express–very similar to the Bernina Express but a lot more expensive! (Of course, it is all day, so that actually makes sense.) Dying to go back to see all of the cities again, and highly recommend them all. Such a beautiful country! Yes, it's expensive, but there's nothing like it!
Glad to see that you had such a great time on the Bernina Express and in St. Moritz. I actually live nearby and hope that my fellow "Engadiner" people treated you well with kindness. Oh and the tart is called Engadiner Nusstorte, for anyone wondering 😊

Great video. Enjoyed the scenery. I was curious how you got the exterior and aerial shots of the train traveling?
Amazing views, i would love to travel on this train
