Coming of Age Day or Seijin no Hi, is a Japanese public holiday held annually on the second Monday of January. This holiday is all about welcoming the country’s youth into adulthood.

During the coming of age celebrations, young women don a special type of kimono, also known as furisode. Furisode has elaborate designs with exceptionally long and elegant sleeves, which also signals that the wearer is available for marriage, being both single and an adult.
