One of Akita’s most iconic festivals, the Yokote Snow Festival glows with an endless array of igloos and small snow huts known as ‘kamakura’. Inside each kamakura is a small shrine decorated with sake and rice cakes, dedicated to the water god ‘Oshizu’. Held annually in February, the kamakura twinkle throughout the city, almost reflecting the starry night sky. #VisitJapanAU
