It’s the first time in three years due to corona pandemic. Finally we could witness the Matsuri!
You hear shouting “dokkoisho~ dokkoisho♪” that’s cheering up the performers.
The largest Kanto consists of 46 lanterns in 12m high pole. The weight is about 50 kg.
Akita Kanto Festival – Huge lanterns called “Kanto” sway in the night sky in prayer for a good harvest. It is a representative summer festival of the Tohoku region and a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset with a history of about 270 years. To operate it, daily training and a sense of balance are required. This traditional technique has been passed down from generation to generation.
