Join us Daniel and Yuka as we explore around Makurazaki the final stop on the JR Ibusuki to Makurazaki Line and the most southern part of Kyushu accessible by train from Kagoshima!

Makurazaki is a beautiful quiet seaside city that used to be bustling with over 170,000 residents but has seen massive urban migration and now has only 24,000 people living here as of 2022…

Let’s see what we can find and explore Yuka’s childhood hometown together!

  1. I loved the stream! Sad that so many houses are empty. I love to explore lost places and it reminds me of parts of East Germany where people just left everything behind.

The lady at the end was very genki! 😁

  2. Such a cool livestream. This yes.. is the real Japan. My brother and I also took a trip on Kyushu by car but we went the other side of Kagoshima bay. I searched Markurazaki on the map and indeed it is the last stop. If we had more time we would have loved to explore here too. Wow all those abandoned buildings give it a special but also a bit sad atmosphere. It is sad that all local people move away to the big cities. I liked the fish market and Yuka's elementary school. Very Genik obachan.
