Laowa sent me this lens as a loaner to try out. It’s supposed to have nearly zero distortion, and it’s is all-manual. I think most people will use it for astrophotography. Overall it has less distortion than I would have thought, though it’s not zero-distortion. And the depth of field isn’t infinite because it’s still a FF lens, so double-check your focus. I think I would mostly use this lens for scenes where I wanted to crop and fix framing in post, such as an action scene with unpredictable elements.

No autofocus?
Yeah far too wide! And if you get close to crowds of people, the distortion is pretty bad. 18mm ish would be better, even if you crop I think. Or there's the 14mm Samyang AF… At least you're getting good results with the crane and didn't get arrested filming in the tube 🙂

Awesome work Brandon. how to shoot the crowd with fully focused? especially inside the market scene.Whats settings you usually using for focus. I think its autofocus but in autofocus have three option. Which one you using? and What will be the aperture when shooting crowd?

I loved your sky shots in the other video you did with this but other than I feel like it is a waste of time
Soon they will have gimbal's with monitors on them so you can see your camera vision but will also have lock on subject features because it's taking a vision feed from the camera, so the gimbal can automatically track/frame a subject while you run around.

Which adapter did you use with this lens, since it's for A mount? I didn't see FE/E mount lens for Sony's, from Laowa. I'm shocked they don't have one for E/FE mount.
I found its angle is up to 122 degree as stated in their specification. How does the angle be if used it on sony A6000 APSC camera.
I don't understand how this is a 4K video with 1080p slowmo footage in it…? Can someone please explain? I thought if you had any 1080p footage, you would have to render all your 4k footage into a 1080p timeline. Is YouTube able to upsample it or something? And is it actually good quality if upsampled to 4K?
Does anybody know if the laowa 12mm e-mount is actually actually sold as an EF version with an e-mount adapter?
really nice image , but expensive. I wonder if it can be used on a speedbooster ultra, would it be like equivalent 7-8mm? would you get vignette from that?

First off great video! This footage looks fantastic! For some reason, I always get heavy distortion when I film myself and my head is anywhere towards the edge of the frame. I use it with a Sony a7s2. Any tips?
