ANA Singapore has a survey to help better understand what people want in visiting Japan – why they’re not coming to Japan right now? I won’t link to the survey but if you’re a Singaporean citizen, I highly recommend you take it and let them now! Other countries also have this survey I’ve been told. Let’s take the survey!

  1. Saw an insane number of tourists going to South-Korea Seoul and Busan. Foreign families, individuals, couples, groups. I saw thousands at Haeundae beach area. A missed opportunity from Japan but maybe next year it will be better 😉

  2. Travel has never been fair. Many citizens can come to the Philippines with just a passport, while me a Filipino citizen need a tourist visa to enter almost all countries.

  3. Will japanese hotels be ready to receive tourists when the country opens? Many American hotels are in terrible state after being closed for almost 2 years

  4. ANA are a fantastic airline; they refunded my flight when I had to cancel at the start of the pandemic. That same money has been ring fenced in my savings ever since, so I hope I can fly with them soon! I really want to return to Japan and am just waiting to be free to do so. <3 I am from London.

  5. I had a flight booked for the end of November to Osaka. I cancelled the trip and got my refund 2 weeks ago. I really wanted to go back to Japan but not with the restrictions and I doubt Japan will be fully open this year. I’m going to Costa Rica in November instead. It’s as if Japan is stuck in the 1st wave of Covid and is still trying to learn how to deal with it.

  6. Maybe because flights have double in price, London to Japan cost me £550 return with ANA in March 2020. It’s now over £1100

  7. We were booked on JAL flying to Tokyo from Vancouver at the end of September 2022 and just cancelled the trip. We were going to stay in Japan for one a half months. Now looking to Singapore for February 2023 and maybe Japan in the fall if it is open.

  8. John,

Love your channel, your content, and your personality. You are likely the single most important source that keeps our interest up for a re-visit to Japan. I thought I would leave my thoughts here and on your other videos so anyone at MOFA that reads the comments can get additional perspective from someone who can’t wait to spend thousands of dollars in Japan.

We left Japan in January 2020 after our first visit of seven days and have been trying to go back ever since. We have rescheduled trips several times and are currently planning on a three week November trip. It is clearly not a definite that we will be able to go this time and at some point we are going to have to move on to several European trips. We have several years of funds set aside for travel. Unfortunately for Japan, we have taken several trips in the meantime using funding previously set aside for Japan. This means we are slowly spending some of the money we want to spend in Japan.

These are the turn-offs that are making it difficult to continue to plan and/or take a trip to Japan.

    • I will not take our trip in November if we have to go with a tour group:

o I am able to get better flight and room deals on my own and the group tours I have seen require the purchase of a total package including flight and room.

o I do not want to be followed around by someone I don’t know for my entire trip.

o The cost for an individual guide for three weeks would be cost prohibitive.

o I want to be spontaneous on my trip and spend by money at a variety of Japanese businesses.

    • I will need to travel 12 hours (round trip) twice to submit and then pick-up a VISA (since I will likely have to do this last minute, I am not comfortable relying on the mail and it is unclear if the e-visa will work). This will eat into the funds that I would prefer to spend in Japan.

    • I cannot begin the VISA process because a travel agency/sponsor is required. This will mean that I will not be able to apply until the “guided tour” policy is changed. If this rule is not updated in a timely manner I may not be able to meet the VISA requirement in time even if travel is open in November. Very hopeful that the e-visa process will help.

    • The requirement for a PCR test is difficult to complete in the US as the antigen test (supervised) is used more often and is therefore cheaper and easier to obtain.

    • I will likely need to do a rapid (less than 4 hour) PCR test because I will be travelling from a smaller city and need to ensure that I get the test completed and the proper paperwork in order. In my City these tests cost 250 dollars. This will cost the two of us 500 dollars that we would rather spend in Japan. If there are no VISA and tour requirements we will spend this 500 so we can travel (but we would rather spend that in Japan than the US).

I have money and would like to spend as much as possible in Japan, but I have already begun to spend some of my Japan targeted money on US and international travel. I am happy to wear a mask, sign a pledge, register my phone, show proof of my vaccination and boosters, obtain health insurance, and pre-test (preferably a cheaper and more available option similar to those used for cruises). I will not spend money on a 3 week guided trip. I may not be able to attend if I cannot apply for a VISA in a timely manner (I cannot apply now since I am not scheduled on a Japan based tour and cannot risk a VISA denial as believe I cannot reapply for 6 months).

  9. For one, I have no extra cash to travel to Japan or any other country abroad. I don't have money to travel within the US.🤷

  10. My wife is from Japan and here side of the Family is in Japan. We want to go to visit, but so far the health-entry requirements have been changing back and forth with the state of C-19 within Japan. We just can't schedule or book a flight on a 'maybe'. Things need to return to normal for a long time before we can consider going again.

  11. still afraid of covid….and maybe to strict or new rules you have to follow in order to get in….might look back inot it f0r 2023 for the trip i planned back in 2020

  12. I want to travel to Japan independently, not within a group tour. Waiting for the Japanese government's brave easing of COVID restrictions.

  13. I received this survey too but I deleted it because I thought it was an insult to ask seeing as the government keeps it closed , I didn't see the point ,but now I understand as you have explained that it's in anticipation of a potential October opening

  14. Either Japan wants tourism or not, revenue or not…all this survey did was waist some Singaporean time. My God!

  15. International traveling is quite expensive now. Even harder to visit a place that has many restrictions. Japan has done well without tourists and tourists still have many locations to visit other than Japan. Life goes on. Go and explore other parts of the world.

  16. Probably better to just write off chances of coming to Japan in 2022 as an independent tourist and go somewhere else instead. People who want to come should try for Spring 2023. Japan will host the G7 summit in May 2023, so it would be really embarrassing for Kishida if Japan was still closed by then.

  17. I want to, but my vacation was already requested and ANA tickets bought. I am waiting for a Koseki Tohon. Then I will go to embassy.

  18. Thank you John. Friends in south east Asia wants to go back to Japan soon. Hope things before easier for everyone.

  19. The moto gp series are holding the competitions in Motegi this autumn. Hos could all the motorcycle teams enger Japan? And spesial agreements?

  20. How could all the motorcycle teams enter Japan? Sorry for the misspelling in last comment.
