In this video, we explore Mount Takao, a popular one-day trip destination near Tokyo. The area is famous for its nature (especially in autumn), hiking, Yakuo-in Temple, soba restaurants and dango shops.
Mount Takao (Takaosan) is located in the city of Hachiōji, Tokyo, Japan. It is protected within Meiji no Mori Takao Quasi-National Park. This place is one of the Japan’s Top 20 Three-Star Michelin Spots and this list also includes places like Mount Fuji and Kyoto.
This mountain is closely associated with the Shinto-Buddhist tengu, supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore. The mountain is also renowned for Shugendō, the mountain asceticism focusing on strict discipline. A Buddhist temple, Takaosan Yakuōin Yūkiji, is located on the mountain, and attracts many visitors who pray to the tengu for good fortune.
