I remember first seeing the AN-74 30 years ago at the Abbotsford International airshow held in British Columbia, Canada. The world's fair was held in Vancouver that year and it's theme was "Man in Motion". The USSR was beginning to enjoy glasnost (openness) after Gorbachev came to power in 1985 and the North American debut of many of their aircraft took place there.
