Wild Boar Mountain Restaurant | The Real Japan | HD

My wife and I were out walking on Rokko mountain in Ashiya, when we came across this unique restaurant.

Inside it was incredible.

It looked like something out of a horror film.

You know the kind. The ones set in remote rural locations, where the locals like to kill and eat those foolish enough to stray into their neighbourhood!

It was packed to the rafters with ephemera and memorabilia relating especially to the wild boar that roam this mountain.

There was a stuffed boar head on one of the walls. Huge, vicious-looking metal boar traps hung from the ceiling.

And, on the walls, many photographs of the creatures in several sizes and seasons. Photos presumably taken around here.

Thankfully, it only *looked* like one of those horror movie locations. 🙂

In reality, the restaurant is called, Takinochaya, and is run by an elderly couple. In winter it specilaises in oden – a Japanese one-pot dish including boiled eggs, daikon, konjac, and processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth.

The day we visited we didn’t encounter any other customers. The place had so much character I had to film it for prosterity.

I hope you enjoy this rare peek inside the wild boar mountain restaurant – Takinochaya.
