Avenida Rio Branco, formerly Avenida Central, is the street that crosses the center of the city of Rio de Janeiro, being the main mark of the urban reform carried out by Mayor Pereira Passos at the beginning of the 20th century. It is one of the main public thoroughfares of the city, being the scene of many important events.

What is the oldest square in Rio de Janeiro?

Praça XV or Praça 15 de Novembro is one of the most famous squares in the city center and there are still some very important buildings in the history of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, in addition to having been the scene of historical events.

A LITTLE OF HISTORY
This place was of fundamental importance to the city in colonial times. It was the region of the main entry point for those arriving by sea, and for many slaves coming from Africa until 1811. Afterwards, this activity started to be carried out at Valongo Wharf.

Praça XV is bordered on one side by the beautiful Guanabara Bay and on the other by Rua Primeiro de Março (or Rua Direita). Even this street was considered one of the busiest and most important in the city.
