Mount Fuji or Fugaku, located on the island of Honshū, is the highest mountain in Japan, at an altitude of 3,776.24 m. It is the second largest volcano located on the island of Asia and is the seventh highest peak on the planet Earth. [1] Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano that last erupted from 1707 to 1708. The mountain is located about 100 km southwest of Tokyo and is visible there on clear days. Mount Fuji’s cone’s specially symmetrical cone, covered with snow for about five months of the year, is often used as a cultural icon in Japan and is often displayed in art and photography, and is visited by tourists and climbers. one of Japan’s “three holy mountains” and Mount Tate and Mount Haku. It is a Special Area of Nature and one of Japan’s Historic Places. It was added to the World Heritage List as a Cultural Heritage Site on June 22, 2013. According to UNESCO, Mount Fuji “inspired artists and poets and has been a pilgrimage for centuries”. UNESCO identifies 25 sites of cultural interest in the Mount Fuji area. These 25 sites include a mountain and a Shinto shrine, Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha.
