In this video, we take you on a walking tour of the Seattle Japanese Garden in early April 2022. This garden is 3.5 acres and is one of the oldest Japanese gardens in North America. The garden is located at the southern end of the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle, Washington, and is about 3 miles from downtown Seattle.

If you live in or visit Seattle, then you have many different beautiful parks and gardens to choose from. The “most beautiful garden” is obviously highly subjective, but I recommend you visit the Seattle Japanese Garden. Especially, if you are short on time and you want a quick and convenient garden to visit, and don’t mind paying the admission fee (it was $8.00 per adult when I visited in April 2022).

The Seattle Japanese Garden is a “stroll garden,” which is a garden style developed in Japan in the late 16th century. A stroll garden often features a winding path around a central pond and/or waterfall, which allows visitors to discover a new scenic landscape around each bend. The Seattle Japanese Garden website provides that “stroll gardens invite visitors to journey through the varied landscapes of Japan — mountains, forests, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, islands and the sea. Along the journey, varied landscapes are hidden and then revealed.” Walking around and enjoying the many views inside the garden is relaxing and peaceful.

The Seattle Japanese Garden includes several water features (including a koi pond), bridges, docks, traditional Japanese buildings, plants, animals, and stones. One of the best times to visit the garden is in the fall months (late-September thru early-November), since you can get a glimpse of those beautiful fall colors in the garden. In the warmer summer months, you can purchase fish food from the Ticket Booth and feed the koi in the pond.

You can visit the Seattle Japanese Garden website (www.seattlejapanesegarden.org/) for current visiting hours and admission. When I visited the garden in April 2022, the admission charge for an adult was $8.00. Parking is FREE.
