What went right? What went wrong? And ultimately, what did our family of four learn by taking a 24β Class C RV with no slide-outs on a road trip from Tennessee to California and back?

your favorite spots are funny to me, i live 30 miles south of the entrance to Yosemite now and the last 2 years of high school us guys went to Seacliff about 7 times over the mountain from San Jose.
How did you all travel with the class c did you rent it out or buy it I am really confused about that.
I have a 2018 29mv with a V10 I get about 9 mpg running the generator and pulling my jeep Cherokee. We went from Grand Rapids Michigan to Mount Rushmore, with the ac on.
My guess for the season after next is Alaska in the winter! I appreciate your discussion about the rig. I am looking at getting on the road in 15-18 months and I am trying to make my final decision about my rig. It's such a hard decision! Argh!
When on the move, the smaller RV's are definitely a bonus. You get to see a lot more than you would with a large rig. You just need to have a fleet of different types lol.
WOW! $73.00 a day in fuel. Thatβs almost, almost enough to fill my Yukon every single day at the current gas prices in SC. Iβd like to know what your totals for the whole trip were.
"experience' is the goal of your journey for you and your family, and you have continually succeeded ! We have have travelled with you are blessed that you have shared with us. THANK YOU.
I donβt understand why you donβt just use your 5th wheel vs renting. I understand the advantages of the smaller rig, but the 5th wheel is HOME! When we need to cover ground we only unpack the bare minimum each night.
Loved your travels. I followed them all. But? You are talking yourself into more space, undeniable. You'll not be happy until you are in a Class A again. Just saying. Listen to all you said about SPACE throughout this video. Peace and love. π Michael
I love watching your family, warms my heart. As a solo traveler, I am in the market for a Class C about the same length, so it was interesting to see how you traveled on your road trip. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Great video, Iβve enjoyed watching it. You talked about your fuel costs. You never mentioned how much the rental was and if there was a mileage cap?
$4400……. π¬
Fantastic!!! You all did a wonderful job of taking us along!!! Hugsπ€π€π€π€
If fuel cost hadnt gone up so high the class C would have made a huge difference just imagine using the 5th wheel probably worse mpg and also higher cost for lodging I think the glass C would be way cheaper
Incredible adventure! Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed the alternate rigs too! So looking forward to next season! ππ»ππ»πππ»
Thanks so much for sharing this journey with us! BTWβ¦you make it sound like hiking half-dome was just another hikeβ¦yesβ¦maybe bucket list but Iβm super impressed! Thatβs tough hike!!! And glad you went to Tahoe. I used to live there. Itβs incredible. Also love to hear your insights!
You really bring up some great points! Loved following you on this journey. Are you able to share the itinerary in print form?
Great season, sorry to see it end.
You've outdone yourself yet again. Thank you so much for doing this and I love how you share your learning experience after the trip. We want to travel to Alaska from Nor Cal in our 20X Basecamp. I think we can do it! Forever LJMJ.
Thanks for your videos. I loved watching all of your video while you were in the MInnie Winnie. I have a 2019 24ft MW also. We have done many renovations in it like adding a flip up counter, taking out the glass shower doors and a few other things. If you would like to see the video let me know. We have AG batteries with 190 watts of solar and a generator. One thing I want is to have our refrigerator hooked up to the inverter to run off the alternator when driving. Also, to put a spare tire rack on the back to get it out of the storage area underneath the coach. I have to have one welded on because I do pull a small car.
Marissa is right..no slide equals no problems. With a slide/s, the question is not if, but when you will have problems with it. Thanks for being transparent with your costs. Love y'all! From SC, Janeβ€οΈπ
This has been a great season! Very insightful and help for our planning. What was the total milage for the $4400 in fuel? You mentioned 2400miles from TN to CA, so was it roughly 5000 miles total or more/less? Can't wait for season 26!
I always wonder why people are so concerned about slides. The added comfort is so worth it. In 20 years with two different units we have never had a slide problem. I keep them lubed and inspected but so far we have not had a problem. I made sure I learned how to get them in in case of a motor failure but have never had to deal with that issue. Thanks for the video.
Did you pay to rent the RV, and accumulated mileage?
Thanks for taking us along. Having moved from CA to TN, your journey causes me to want to see my former homestate through a vistor's eyes. I totally did not expect that. I love it when you receive a perspective for something you did not know you needed. Awesome
It was so awesome watching all of your California adventures!! β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
That was so awesome! That was definitely a once in a lifetime trip. For moving frequently I totally agree with you on having a motorhome. Plus you can use the bathroom while traveling. No more pulling over every other exit for the bathroom. We have a 42' diesel pusher. After seeing some of those roads you were on I could easily see either renting a smaller Class C or maybe even buying one. We bought our motorhome at Lazydays. We absolutely love them. π€ FYI we get 7 to 7.5 mpg towing our Lincoln MKX. Last summer we started out at home in Florida. We went to Cheyenne Wyoming, Whichita Kansas, Oklahoma City and Memphis Tennessee. Fuel was cheaper then, but we still spent $2000 on fuel alone. So, yes! I would spend $4000 on a total trip for two months.
This is a good video.
Loved this trip ! you showed everyone my beautiful state . πππ»β€οΈ
I enjoyed your trip. Thanks for taking us along! I canβt wait to see what else you do. Love seeing your kiddos enjoying their travels and each other! I think it would be hard to pick an RV.
One small slide for man⦠one giant counter space for mankind! I liked that 27DSE⦠the inconvenience of doing the slides is way offset by the extra room. News flash⦠your kids are not getting smaller every day! LOL
I drive a 27β Winnebago Minnie Winnie (27Q) with a single dinette slide. Yes, there is a nice amount of extra floor space with the slide out – I could have a party!
BUT, having the slide in does not block access or affect regular moving around traffic. I often donβt bother putting the slide out if Iβm only stopping for a night.
I think you guys are used to the slides in the 5th wheel, where it can totally block off essential areas. But depending on the layout, this often isnβt an issue in a Class C. Mine has a comfy walk-around queen bed (with no need for a slide back there), decent counter space in the galley and the passenger seat swivels.
I admit, I use my oven as storage for bread and hamburger buns. π Being cool and dark keeps bread good longer. π
My husband and I travel 6+ months per year in a 24' Class C with no slide. We have plenty of space. I have an oven and use it numerous times per week. It cooks perfectly even. I even baked homemade yeast bread in it which came out beautiful.
Ok itβs official; Iβm watching you guys too much. I just woke up from falling asleep in my recliner,β¦ And , I was dreaming about you guys. OMGOSH, what does this mean?
