Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia – Yes, I’m going to call this the most beautiful national park in Europe. The Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is one of the most incredible natural landscapes I have ever witnessed.

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvička Jezera) is 300 square kilometers of deep green lush forest, and features 16 incredible lakes, all inter-connected by a seemingly endless series of majestic waterfalls.

The Croatian National Park a well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Croatia.

If you’re looking for the best things to do in Croatia, I highly recommend coming to Plitvice National Park.

Just be careful of what time of year you come to this National Park, because it does get very crowded in the summer months. I would actually love to come back to Plitvice in the fall!

    A famous couple of the storks in Croatia was female Malena and male Klepetan. Malena had a wing injury from an early age and could not fly.

    A man who lives nearby took care of her and the birds for 28 years. He bought them river fish and everything they needed. Her male Klepetan went on a trip to Africa every autumn and

    returned to her every spring. They had young every year. Unfortunately, Malena died last year, when she was coming down from the nest, she got stuck and injured herself. The man who

    had taken care of her and the young one for decades tried to help her, but she died after ten days.

    I have been to Plitvice two times. 2015 and 2022 in May. The last was disappointing due to the mega drought affecting Europe. Less than half the waterfalls compared to 2015. Still a beautiful park and worth visiting. I stayed at the park itself in the Bellview hotel. Much better than staying outside the park imo.
