Antakya is known for its street food, as well as for being one of the best, most unique foodie cities here in Turkey. Registered as a UNESCO city of gastronomy, Antakya, situated in the Hatay province, is a must visit for any street food tour of Turkey.

We set out on our unique street food tour of Hatay to try all of the most popular and best street foods the city, and region, is known for. Our first stop was for bakla and humus, two unique dishes that surprised us with their simple ingredients and bold flavours.

We’ve tried kunefe before in Turkey, but never in the city where it was born, Antakya! We wanted to try the best Antakya kunefe, so we went to one of the most popular places here in Hatay for it and watched them make the kunefe from start to finis. Definitely the best Antakya kunefe we could have tried!

As we continued our unique street food tour of Turkey in Hatay, we took a nice coffee break at one of the oldest and best coffee shops here in Hatay, Affan Kahvesi. Here we had the best local Hatay coffee, as well as the unique haytali dessert, such tasty and unique street foods here in Hatay.

Before our last stop of the day, we went into a local firin to try the unique biberli ekmek, hot pepper bread. This took our street food tour of Turkey to a new, spicy level! We couldn’t believe how spicy and flavourful the bread was, and the hospitality of the family at the firin was just the best.

To end our street food tour of Turkey today, we tried the famous and unique tepsi kebab, known as the tray kebab. The unique tepsi kebab is a very popular street food in Hatay, Turkey, and we went to an amazing butcher to have it prepared and cooked fresh, in the best and most unique way. This unique tepsi kebab is not to be missed!

Having the opportunity to visit one of the best and most unique cities of gastronomy in Turkey was an amazing experience for us.
