The Surprise KANGAROO ISLAND Trip in South Australia – Part 1 (4K Video)

Episode 17. We arrive in South Australia for our mum and dad’s surprise 51st wedding anniversary. But little did they know that the whole family have been planning to take them away to Kangaroo Island for a week. We board the ferry at Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula to Penneshaw the main ferry port on Kangaroo Island. We book into our accommodation for the week and start exploring the island. Kangaroo Island is known as Nature’s Playground and is Australia’s 3rd largest island after Tasmania and Melville Island in the Northern Territory. KI is sanctuary for wildlife and natural, rugged beauty that will make it impossible for us to not to relax.

In part 1 of our Kangaroo Island episodes, our first stop is Penneshaw the second largest town on Kangaroo Island. Next we visit Dudley Wines situated just 12km from Penneshaw and would have to be one of the most stunning winery cellar doors in the world perched on a clifftop over looking Kangaroo Islands rugged coastline across the backstairs passage to main land Australia. Just down the road is the Lashmar Conservation Park a favorite for beach lovers and bird watches. We make our way to the eastern most point of KI the Cape Willoughby lighthouse and discover it’s history being the first ever lighthouse built in South Australia. The next day we go for a coffee at the Lavender Farm cafe and enjoy its beautiful relaxing garden. Then onto Emu Bay, yes keep an eye out for the locals that it was named after. Emu bay may lack shops and campgrounds but its beach ranks among the top most popular beaches in all South Australia with its crystal clear blue water and white beach. What makes it even more popular is the fact it is one of the few beaches with direct vehicle access on KI that you can drive your 4wd along and find your own peace of paradise for the day. After a busy morning it is time to wet the whistle and head to KIB Kangaroo Island Brewery and then onto Kingscote. It is South Australia’s oldest European settlement 1836 and the islands largest town.
