Thanks for the beautiful video and your narrative of this exquisite ancient temple well. Hope you achieve your objective of creating a better awareness to preserve such valuable ancient structures and resources. Hope the local people and government take action to preserve and maintain the temple well.
I am pained but not surprised when I see our ancient heritage and treasures neglected, destroyed, vandalised or looted because most of us, Indians have little respect, value or awareness of our great heritage.
We all know Taj Mahal, Konarak Sun Temple, Ajanta caves, Mahabalipuram sculptures, Rajasthan forts, Halebed stone carvings, Sanchi stupas etc because they get much publicity and admired by westerners. We even spend thousands of crores to build new temples. But how much do we care for the even more beautiful temples and ancient buildings and structures scattered across India in their thousands, most of them in utter neglect and disrepair.
Our forefathers must have built these structures with so much of love, passion and foresight. Many of these structures were built for a noble cause such a step well or temple pond for rain water harvesting, large temple mandaps to shelter people in times of natural disasters etc. And of course our forefathers didn't build these structures as plain, dull and uninteresting structures. They employed skillful artisans to create these structures aesthetically beautiful, last for long time while at the same time ensuring they serve the purpose for which they were built.
But everything seems forgotten now. A vast majority of our community and heritage structures are in utter state of neglect and even suffer wanton destruction by the public and by the local, state and national governments.
You can bring back anything but time and the dead. Once lost these are lost forever. In India we all talk of grandiose schemes like linking Ganga and Cauvery, building huge dams across Krishna or Godavari etc etc, but don't even value ancient structures such as this well and numerous lakes and ponds that conserved local rain water at a fraction of the cost of the grand projects.
There are hundreds and thousands of such structures littered across the country. Hopefully we all recognise and develop a greater awareness of the timeless value of our heritage structures, many in our own backyard. It's not enough just to remember our parents, grandparents and forefathers. Valuing and protecting the treasures they left behind, whether it is arts, structures, culture, language or literature is the greatest tribute, respect and gratitude we can show to them.
Many of these structures survived hundreds and even thousands of years, lovingly cared by our forefathers with foresight. But most may not survive just one generation – our generation. If we continue to show apathy and carelessness to our heritage then neither our forefathers will forgive us nor our future generations.
Good Thing for this type ved o thankyou for that god 🙏 bless you
Karnataka state government should repair all these beautiful Mandirs.please.
It is really very sad that the locals and the concerned politicians of the region have shown little interest in preserving such huge monuments. It may be because of utter disregard for the cultural heritage of our monuments. Due to the reasons best known to many viz invasion after invasion and by out siders who are bent upon dominating the country to destroy our past heritage. 😢
Thanks for giving such wonderful information govt should have taken immediate action to prevent such Architecture
Very Very beautiful temple ,not only people but government should also take care of these monuments

There was a tall temple above this structure. The one appearing here was built to preserve treasure trove s by Badami Chalukyas and Vijayanagara Kings. Muslims razed the temple and stolen the total wealth beneath brutally.

Thanks for the Video. Let us visit this National Treasure so that more people get awareness. Hope this stepwell glory will be revived soon.
You said something very key the locals have an abandoned carefree demeanor regarding this structure. When looking back into the ancient past what’s important to be able to grasp is the attitude and spirit of the people that lived during that time. We would be shocked to know how they felt and acted. Understanding the difference in our attitudes now compared to then is the transition that needs to be addressed. We can quantify how these ancient buildings were built before we could get with their behavior. The work needs to start right here at home in our own hearts and minds! Do we care to be free or have these kings and governments mold our thoughts further and further away from unlimited potential and proven past paradisiacal heritage?
An underground temple in recognition to the snake king! Perhaps that is a good explanation. No carvings of any sort even snakes kind of rules out the use as a temple. No doubt it has something to do with serpents because it is underground. In shamanism holes in the ground are needed to access the underworld. Power holes that have special energy entrances can resemble a structure like this. Entering the arch and descending one immediately can feel a change. This structure as well as most of the ancient temples belong to people that practice out body experience as a norm so these structures have to be given a trance state experience interpretation of usage. How else are we to understand their fascinations with a temple like access to the underworld?
Beautiful
I am amazed by the intricate stonework of these ancient places. They are so beautiful and advanced technologically. Brilliant 👏

We teach only about invaders to our children and this ignorance about our heritage is the direct result of such teachings. We need to change the narrative. It our duty to protect and preserve our history and culture. No one from outside will come to protect.
Government should preserve these places
Karnataka tourism centre has to take action to save this golden ancient places
