This time I will walk in Kuchinotsu-cho, Minami-Shimabara City, located in the south of Shimabara Peninsula in the southern part of Nagasaki Prefecture.
Kuchinotsu Town is located on the Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture and is known as a seafaring town because of the ferry service connecting Kuchinotsu with the Amakusa region in Kumamoto Prefecture.
The Arima clan, the feudal lords who ruled Shimabara, were Christian feudal lords, and under their rule, the number of Christian believers increased, and in 1580, a seminariyo was established in the Ariake district, bringing in much Christian culture and eventually European culture.
It was in Kuchinotsu that Father Alessandro Vagliano, who later sent the Tensho mission to Europe, first landed, and today a bust commemorating his landing and achievements has been erected.

今回は長崎県南部にある島原半島の南にある南島原市口之津町を歩きます。
口之津町は、長崎県の島原半島にあり、熊本県天草地方と口之津を結ぶフェリーが運行しているので船員の町としても知られています。
島原を治めた大名有馬氏はキリシタン大名であり、彼らの統治のもと、キリスト教信者が増加し、1580年には、有家地区にセミナリヨが開設され、多くのキリスト教文化、ひいてはヨーロッパ文化が流入しました。
後に天正遣欧少年使節を派遣するアレッサンドロ・ヴァリャーノ神父が初上陸したのは口之津であり、現在は上陸と功績を讃える胸像も建てられています。
