The location of the photo shoot was Mt. Daruma – Highland – Viewpoint in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, with a view of Mt. Fuji. The location was recommended to us by Saki Furuya, an artist and entrepreneur.
The view from the Daruma Plateau Observatory was the subject of a highly acclaimed panoramic photograph of Mt. Fuji at the New York World Expo (1939), and Japanese painting master Taikan Yokoyama had a special fondness for the view of Mt. Fuji from this location.
The sunrise on this day was so special that the presence of Mt. Fuji was comparable to that of the sun. For two hours, from the beginning to the end of the shoot, the landscape kept changing from moment to moment, a parade of colors that I could not take my eyes off of. I have never seen such a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji.
