We moved to our new (temporary) apartment in downtown Taipei, which came stocked with some rental road bikes for us to use! After resting up for a few days from our long cycling tour along the Taiwan East coast, we were itching to get back on the bike and cycle around Taipei.. Well, at least I was (I think my wife still wanted to rest a bit, but…)

Today we decided to ride our new rental road bikes to Tamsui from Taipei. Most of the way is along the amazing Riverside Bike Path (cycling road) network in Taipei, so nice and flat with beautiful pavement and no cars. I think this might be one of the best cycling road networks in the world, and I’ve heard there are over 200km of these roads in Taipei alone.. And there’s a bunch of other great cycling roads around other cities in Taiwan as well..

We saw lots of beautiful sights along the way and got some food once we arrived in Tamsui. We continued on to the Fisherman’s Wharf and lovers bridge for some last few photo opportunities before starting our trip back to Taipei.

On our way back, we were approached by a random person who turned out to be a fan from the US who has lived all over Asia. This was pretty exciting for us since it was our first time running into a fan outside of Japan and he (Quinn) turned out to be a really great and interesting guy to talk to. We ended up riding all the way back to Taipei together and grabbed some dinner together at the local night market. To be continued in our next video!

Thanks Quinn for helping guide us around and especially for introducing so much good food!

Today’s ride on Strava (total of 90km with a surprise mountain climb at the end in the dark)

  1. Nice place for cycling and nice suit 😊 I hope someday i wear suit like u 😁
    Keep posting another video 🙏

  2. Beautiful bridges, good food, smooth road for cyclist and happy wife. Nice video Cruise!

  3. 淡水河: "T" is most likely derived from Cantonese (my mother tongue hehe). And "D" is most likely derived from Mandarin.

  4. Nice vlog, I wish there were nice places to ride my bike where I live. Does your wife speak any English?

  5. 日本と違って、ジョガー&ランナーが湧いてこない所と車とのエリア断絶してるから歩行者横断が少ないのが良いね。

  6. Now I want to see Taiwan, along Japan…
Trip start: no smile. Cycling, drinking, eating, meeting new people. Big smile. 🙂

  7. I've Been Silently watching your videos sir . i am very shy to comment lol.but this is some nice content love it keep it up sir!

  8. 12:30 Taiwan designs some crazy slope angles for their pedestrian bridges. This bridge reminds me of Xiying Rainbow Bridge in Magong City out in Penghu Island, in Taiwan… Ankle buster climbs!

  9. Cruise, you should be on the Taipei Tourism board. How many videos do you think this trip will yield? Keep up with all the great content. Cheers!

  10. First of all, love your content. With that being said, your dislike of people using umbrellas without rain cracks me up. 10:31 made me lol… 😂😂😂

  11. Those cycling paths are just heavenly… I wanna ride them someday. Thanks for sharing this. Great content as always.

  12. The ferry there actually can take you all the way to the lover's bridge/fisherman's wharf. 🙂

  13. Pretty cool ride. I've been on some parts of that bike path and hope to do the full ride on the next visit. Good stuff!

  14. Thanks…that was a great video 👍
I was in that area about 10 years ago and never knew about that bike path.
Back then I did some hiking in yami mountains among a lot of steam vents
and visited a restaurant/bath house in the mountain that was really nice.
Hope I get back there soon, and with your help, I should have better time on a
bike. Would you mind saying what a nice road bike rents for there?
    Thanks again!

  15. Thanks for sharing the beauty of Taipei and Taiwan. Hope to see you and your lovely wife back to Taiwan again to explore other bike paths soon.
Best wishes to your family and career both in teaching and youtube.

  16. Great to see so many dedicated cycle lanes! So different to the UK where I am from. Thanks for another nice video.

  17. Thanks for sharing, I just love the bike paths in Taipei. It looks a lot safer on those tracks then cycling on the main road.

  18. You should ride on the river side at night. Many Taiwanese ride at night, especially in summer, or because of working on daytime.

  19. Next time, ride the bike path on east side of Taipei, also along the river. There are more to explore.

  20. Tamsui is the romanization of the place name that is more closely representative of the pronunciation in the Taiwanese Hokkien dialect. Danshui is the Mandarin romanization using Pinyin of the same name. There's also an older Wade-Giles romanization of Mandarin that was used until the 2000s when most of Taiwan switched over to Hanyu/Tongyong Pinyin. A lot of places are still officially romanized in Wade-Giles (e.g. Kaohsiung ["Gaoxiong" in Hanyu Pinyin], Taipei ["Taibei" in Hanyu Pinyin], Keelung ["Jilong" in Hanyu Pinyin] etc).

  21. Great video. My daughter and family live in Danshui. Felt very familiar your trip to Jiufen and then to Danshui. Hoping to go again next year- if allowed!. Will hire a bike for a couple of weeks and cycle around the island as part of my visit. Was going to take my bike but hire cost seem really reasonable.

  22. Baobing, very similar to "halo-halo" in the Philippines, "kakigori" in Japan, "cendol" in Indonesia/Malaysia and "patbingsu" in South Korea.

  23. I live in Tamsui, it seems that you missed a very nice beach just in the northernmost part of your Strava route. You would have loved it.
