Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine: The place is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. The street packed with food stalls and souvenir stores on the way to the shrine was especially nice. The trip to the summit can be a little grueling if you’re not in shape, but the lack of people makes it the perfect place to get good pictures.

GEAR Theatre: I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this show and was pleasantly surprised by the creativity and emotional depth portrayed by the actors. Not to mention the very creative set design. The show is unlike anything I’ve seen before and I would happily see it again. Highly recommend it!

Gio-ji Temple: There are so many temples in Kyoto to view and one has to be selective especially if you have to pay an admission fee. We elected to visit the Gio-ji temple and we were not disappointed. This is one of the prettiest temple grounds in Kyoto. It is quite small and intimate, so peaceful and serene. As you walk through this small garden area, the trees, rocks, bamboo and of course, the moss area flow and mesh seamlessly together and one is completely entranced with this enchanting experience. There is a small hut which has some floral displays. This hut and likewise all the ornaments and ground decoration completes the temple’s enchanting setting.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto: The hotel is as one would expect from Ritz Carlton: everything at the right place, making it extremely comfortable without being posh. Ideal location, at walking distance from touristic sites and charming restaurants on the river. Super friendly staff; easy arrival process; lovely rooms, with fantastic amenities; very good breakfast; nice bar etc. Sole “negative” points to note: 1. Choose your room well. Half the rooms have a wonderful view on the river; the other half have no view at all. 2. Very limited spaces outside, which is a bit of a pity considering that the hotel is literally on the river. I can only recommend to the GM to create a nice informal terrace outside
