From false claims of world records, to sneaky attempts to circumvent planning and building restrictions, roller coasters and their marketing teams have told us several lies over the years and in this video, I’ll expose some of the biggest offenders. Six Flags, Cedar Point, Alton Towers and more are all featured, with a surprising number of RMC coasters, including their most beloved one Steel Vengeance. I’ve tried to make this video light and entertaining as we approach the end of a pretty miserable year, so I hope it puts a smile on your face and you find it entertaining.

Hi
You could have spent the whole episode at Alton Towers as with the exception of the Smiler none of their ‘worlds firsts’ really were.
Thank you for articulating that wood-on-steel coasters could also be considered hybrids. This crosses my mind whenever I ride on one. The Comet at Great Escape is the one that first got me thinking about this category.
I’ve encountered several Poles who told me that Hyperion is the tallest coaster in Europe (it isn’t — Red Force is). Now maybe they heard “tallest full-circuit coaster in Europe” (which it is) and glossed over the details. Or maybe, it got me wondering, Energylandia also “lied” in its advertising in Poland. 🤷♂️
Hades 360 has a sign outside that says “speeds up to 70mph” but its recorded top speed is 60 i’d say it actually feels faster than 60 tho
Sierra Tonante at Mirabilandia was claimed to be Europe's tallest roller coaster since it opened in 1992 until around 1999 or 2000. That is statistically untrue since Anaconda at Walygator parc which is slightly taller held the record and had opened years earlier
Pretty sure you just hit 1000 subscribers? Well done and you deserve way more.
Great video! And congratulations on 1000 subs! Keep on doing what you're doing
At six flags america, Wild One has signs listing it at 60 mph whereas rcdb has it at 53 mph
Amazing video man! Thanks for using my footage!!!
This is the most needed "roller coaster stats debunked" video every coaster enthusiast must see. Thank you for speaking to my pain and frustration. Shambala does reach 83 MPH even if it doesn't reach 85 MPH, (call the cops!) but we've already established that The Big One only reaches 74 MPH, which I "also" agree with.Thunder Dolphin has a drop of 217' which makes a speed of 81 MPH plausible.
Top stuff again David. It annoys me that people don’t see coasters with a wooden track + steel supports as hybrids.
The Big One’s speed comes from dropping an object, the same weight as a fully loaded train with a 5mph launch (I.e. the lift hill speed) from a height of 235ft we did it in a physics lesson. It’s all theoretical 🙂
You left out Th13teen and the "world's scariest roller coaster"
Congrats on 1k
What about iron rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas isn’t it taller than Goliath
Didn't Blackpool Pleasure Beach also market Icon as the UK's first double launch coaster even though they already have the UK's first double launch coaster in their own park in the form of Revolution? 😂
Congrats on 1000 subscribers!!! 👏
Mystic timbers and the shed 😳
Underground height still counts towards overall height
Nice video! I never realised all those false statements especially SteVe's
Every one knows shuttle coasters don’t count… until they do… depending on what records you want
If I recall correctly, Infusion at BPB was marketed as the largest inverted coaster in the UK at the time, while in fact it was not even the largest SLC – it was actually the smallest, with both Kumali and Jubilee Odyssey being larger. Whatever it takes to hype a second hand SLC from just down the street as a brand new ride, I guess.
And six flags still tries to get away with it, they just had the same problem at Great Escape.
new dive coasters actually have modified track sections for the drop…. a small steel bar is added to the track the up-stop wheels provide tension to. keeping the trains tightly locked into the drop chain and extremely stable during the drop section
I ❤️ Donald Trump
ElToroRyan said Ka & Dragster actually don’t launch to their advertised speeds
One false claim that seems completely accidental was for the second drop on Phantoms Revenge. It was originally said to be 228 feet and it was said to be 82 miles per hour. There was a remeasurment more recently, though, that showed it was 232 feet and 85 miles per hour.
"The smiler at Alton towers, the worlds first 14 looping roller coaster!" -Alton towers ad. The smiler doesn't even have a single loop in it.
I also think of Taron as the longest Multi Launch Coaster in the world with Helix beeing longer and built 2 years earlier
Not really a lie, but Hades 360 Always has a sign saying that "its running violently today," and to "keep your hands down." This is to keep people from hitting their hands on the supports and other things.
One of the biggest lies has to be Euroloop at Fabrikus World in France. It´s a Vekoma Double Loop Corkscrew Coaster identical to Python at Efteling. When they where building it the Park had a sign that it would reach 150 km/h (93.5 mp/h) from just 35m (114.8 ft) of height. Of course both numbers are a lie, the height not too much really as it 30m (98.4 ft) tall, but it actually only reaches 65 km/h (40.4 mp/h) in speed, less then half of what they claimed. They are lying about the stats to this day on their website, but they reduced the height to 32m (104.9 ft) and the speed to a more realistic, but still way too high 85 km/h (52.8 mp/h)
