KHON KAEN, THAILAND (ขอนแก่น) – Khon Kaen is a major city in the Isan northeastern region of Thailand. Today we’re going on a crazy spicy street food tour of Khon Kaen where @Joel Bruner and I will be eating at a legendary beef restaurant, followed by insanely spicy green papaya salad, and a comforting bowl of noodles. Let’s get started eating amazing Thai street food.
Prasit Pochana ประสิทธิ์โภชนา (https://goo.gl/maps/a3eqoBSJNdkn7krNA) Total price – 950 THB ($28.73) – The first place we went is Prasit Pochana (ประสิทธิ์โภชนา), a legendary meat, especially Isan beef restaurant. They specialize in dishes like Thai crying tiger beef, and jaew hon, an Isan style hot pot. It’s an amazing restaurant, one of the best in Khon Kaen especially if you love meat.
Som Tam Parinya ส้มตำปริญญา (https://goo.gl/maps/oE7BDi2fpiyHBAUL8) Total price – 380 THB (11.51) – Next up on this Khon Kaen street food tour we headed over to one of Joel’s favorite places to eat Isan / Lao papaya salad, known as the University degree papaya salad – Som Tam Parinya ส้มตำปริญญา. Their pla ra, fermented fish sauce is a true highlight here. And they pounded us up some insanely spicy combinations.
Jay Hong เจ๊หงส์ โจ๊ก จั๊บ ต้มเส้น (https://goo.gl/maps/w6XqZWdkMEW9tMwDA) Price – about 40 THB per bowl ($1.21) – After a crazy amount of chilies for lunch we decided to eat something a little calm and comforting for dinner – noodles.

I think Joel is the only one that can handle the heat as much as mark…need more of Joel..he seems like great company.
I could taste the food! Isan Thai food looks so similar to Laotian cuisine. From the ingredients in all their dishes to how papaya salad is made. This is the only way I like my papaya salad, smelly and dark (fermented fish and fish sauce) and spicy. I love spicy food all day everyday but Mark and Joe are on a whole other level.

It’s pretty stupid, but i am a British citizen. I moved around a lot when i was young so i was so lucky to try so many different dishes. Now when i was about 5-6 yrs we lived in Africa i will never forget the food back then so your looking at 1977! I will never forget the first time i tried cashews OM WORD i fell in love with them, i travelled a lot due to my dads work and around then it was dangerous. We left on a cargo plane just to get us off of Africa thats when i realised what chillies were. I touched the tiny red vegetable which is i thought it was and the other family who escaped with us leapt telling me do not rub your eyes and face she poured so much water on my face and hands and kept doing it. Its only now when i went away again a little further on in my life realised why, my GOD i burnt from inside out. I love Thai and all sorts of rich wonder asian food but i have to ask no chillis 😂 as that put me off for years. Im glad the young kids can go and try all this food and not even leave the country. 🐶👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍
