Cycling in Japan: Cycling around Lake Biwa

Now with subtitles in English & Japanese. 英語と日本語の字幕付きになりました。

The Biwaichi Cycling Path is one of the National Cycle Routes in Japan (https://www.mlit.go.jp/road/bicycleuse/good-cycle-japan/national_cycle_route/english.html) and allows riders to enjoy the Shiga countryside, local history; and important landmarks while cycling around the circumference of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake.

While it is possible for an experienced cyclist to complete the 200km circuit in one day, we recommend taking 2 days or even better 3 days to make the most of the route and nearby surroundings.

In this video, we take 2 days to ride around the Lake and camp at Makino, located towards the scenic Northern end of Shiga. We start and finish the ride in Otsu taking in some of the main attractions such as Hikone Castle, Metasequoia Namiki (Makino Pic-land) and Shirahige Tori Gate.

  1. Excellent, as usual, but being an old man, I had to take a nap because it was exhausting just watching the video. 🙂

  2. Nice edited video! I really want to know how you made this moving yellow path along the route you cycled.
