The main public market district of Mae Sot in Tak Province centers on this large building. I’ve recently discovered the fun of 360 video, and I decided to take my Insta360 One X2 camera into this market building and go for a stroll.

I didn’t include any kind of narration or commentary as I walked around. And I didn’t add any music while editing the video. In fact, because I’m using a very simple 360-video editor, I wasn’t even able to add music. And I wasn’t able to combine multiple clips. Because of how limited this editing program is, I’m restricted to using just one video clip, and it has to be completely unbroken from beginning to end. The video has to essentially be one continuous shot without any breaks.

I was pretty happy with this little experiment. I’ve learned that the One X2 camera is very sensitive to exposure adjustments, and you have to dial in the right exposure compensation when you go from a bright outdoor environment into a somewhat darker indoor space. Even a small adjustment seems to make a big difference. I’ve also learned that it helps to pause occasionally and just stand still and hold the camera in one location. That provides an opportunity to move the camera view around inside the 360 video and look at everything instead of the scene constantly moving past.

There’s also a different psychology to shooting this type of video. I am not personally aiming the camera in any direction or at any particular person. Therefore, I feel somewhat separate from the camera and perhaps more comfortable to be standing there. I’m just standing there and looking around me as I’m always doing as I go out for my exploratory walks in Mae Sot. I’m not even looking at the camera myself. The camera is at the end of a long selfie stick somewhat far away from me and just hovering in the air doing its own thing – separate from me.
