Four weeks of riding through the most beautiful places northern Europe has to offer.
Northern Europe (Scandinavia and adjoining north-western part of Russia) is a place full of history and interesting places. Vast and sparsely populated landscapes, harsh climate and great nature formed people and culture and make this one of the prime destinations for motorcycle travel in Europe.

From the taiga in russian Karelia to Kola Peninsula and Murmansk, through the sparse landscapes of northern Norway between Kirkenes, Hamningberg and the famous Nordkapp. From the northernmost road on continental Europe through finnish and swedish Lapland on to the Lofoten and along the norwegian coast through fjords and mountains. You have to see this place for yourself!

If you want to make a similar trip or ride parts of my route, here is what my route looked like:
After riding the car train (DB Autozug) from Lörrach to Hamburg, the ferry from Germany (Travemünde) brought me to Helsinki, where I headed east towards the russian border – to Санкт Петербург (Saint-Petersburg). After sightseeing for a day, I headed north on the Magistrale 18 (Кола) through Петрозаводск (Petrozavodsk), Медвежьегорск (Medvezhyegorsk ) and Мончегорск (Monchegorsk) and arrived in Murmansk (Мурманск) a few days later.
Next on the plan was riding to Norway (Kirkenes), from where I took two detours to Grense Jakobselv and Hamningberg, before I rode to the Nordkapp. Back south through a bit of finnish Lapland and Sweden, the road led me to the Lofoten islands, from where I rode south along the coastline and on the Atlantic road to southern Norway. Another ferry brought me to Denmark, where I made my way back home through Germany, the Netherlands and France.

  1. Inspirational dude. I was worried about doing a 1000 mile tour around Scotland on a sv650s. After watching your vid, I've been put at ease. Nice

  2. Thanks for putting that killer video together! Some amazing footage and roads. Hard to find stuff like that living on the Canadian prairies… lol Hoping to do a 7000km trip on my '02 650S next spring. Such a great bike. I have little doubt it can do it!

  3. Well I think I can't do trip like this on my MZ ETZ 150 but… well, I can but I'll spend more time repairing my little girl instead of riding. :/
Damn.. I want to go back on the road, again..! :/

  4. same problem mate i m thinking clip on risers as a solution but i cant find a video to see how the rider looks on the bike with them.

  5. Awesome ride and nice video!!
I've done 3000km trip on the SV but 2up. I can understand the part where you are "falling asleep" especially on long straight roads. 😀
But this baby goes through corners so nicely. I sometimes miss it because now I ride the big Bandit.

  6. I have a Suzuki DR 650, but havn't got my license yet. I willt ake it this spring and then work on the summer and I plan to go to Nordkapp after that in August. I'm 20 years old and I figured I might asweell do it now when I have only myself to think about… That might change in the future, I have nothing holding me back really. except money. But if I stay in tent the whole trip there will only be preparations and gas and food and I think I will be able to do it. I live in Southwest Sweden and plan to go up straight to Norway and then go to Geiranger and at the Norwegian westcoast all the way up and then either down to Finland and take a ferry over to Stockholm and back or just straight down in Sweden after Nordkapp. I have a few friends in the far North both in Finland and in Sweden so maybe I can stay a night there to resupply if I need. Great video, thanks for the route tips!

  7. Trollstigen and Geiranger fjorden is a must. Atlanterhavs veien is short but cool. I'we done them all and are riding vestlandet this year too. I'we allways dreamt of doeing something like this, maybe towards italy, maybe in a few years.. Thanks 4 shearing..

  8. I love all of your videos man, Im jealous of you 🙂
please can you tell me,how do you keep your camera working ALL the time.. I know GoPro can work for 2 hours max… so,what you have like 10 bateriees with you or what? 🙂
    thank you.

  9. Although you seem to be getting along with the sv just fine a v-strom might better suit you. Very cool video

  10. Another awesome video – nice work! I'm newly inspired to try leaving my camera by the side of road like you do, hoping that (a) it doesn't get stolen and (b) I can find it again 🙂

  11. Hello. What can you say about SV 650s in such a long trips? I own sv too and would love to travel, but i think it will be extremely uncomfortable in long trips (back pain etc.)

  12. Some nice ride areas for sure. part of the map made it look like you rode in the water. lol  SV's are good bikes for smooth payment, but some of the roads, not so smooth. The naked modle like I have is a little more comfy for the back, the seat gets hard to deal with after a while; even with this bike, not being the best long distance bike, seems like you made a lot of good memories with it, in spite of those shortcomings.. lol  Good video & Take care. yl

  13. Hey I'm going to drive my Sv650 from Poland to Croatia on the oncoming summer. Tell me did you do any modifications to your SV before the trip? What was your flyby speed and how much fuel did you burn per 100 km +/-? I'd be pleased with your answer ! Great video ! 🙂

  15. Question: have you installed a inner tube, inside your front and back wheel?

  16. My hat off to you, sir. Btw, that's coming from a guy owning a blue SV650S first gen :D.

  17. One of the best videos of that part of the world i have ever seen!
Shots, framing, post production, editing are simply stunning!!
I LOVED the "falling asleep" act (or no act…i could definitely relate)!!
    Excellent work

  18. Great video! You have really spent time to put your camera in places and ride over. Excellent!

  19. Great video!
I'm thinking of taking an SV650 around Europe (literally all around it), so it's nice to see someone doing long trips ob it!

  20. Thank you so much, to share your adventure and so amazing places with us, the care to getting videos and photos really show how you were worried to make us understand how wonderful are the lands crossed during the trip. About the motorcycle, I ever keept in mind that sportive and naked were not appropriated to long trip, but after your video, I know that is possible to make it.

  21. Hi, I've just seen the video today, 11 years later. Beautifull views and landscapes. I wonder very much how it was regarding the sporty body position on an SV s model and what do you ride on nowadays? Regards

  22. Hele leuke video! Ik heb genoten. Leuk dat jij de reis met een sv650 doet in plaats van een standaard toer motor. Gr uit Nederland.
