This is a 2009 POV of Superman The Escape At Six Flags Magic Mountain In Valencia, California. POV filmed and edited by TheCoasterViews.
The ride was intended to open in 1996. However, due to a range of problems Superman: The Escape opened on March 15, 1997. At the end of July 4 weekend of 2010 Superman: The Escape ceased operations with no reason given. A sign posted in front of the ride indicated that it would reopen during the 2011 season, with hints indicating that there would be improvements made to the ride experience. A Los Angeles Times report on August 3, 2010, announced the plans for Superman: The Escape to undergo a major refurbishment before the 2011 season. After Superman: The Escape’s former sister ride, the defunct Tower of Terror II at Dreamworld, underwent a major refurbishment in 2010 which entailed a new vehicle which launches backwards, speculation turned to the possibility of a similar modification to the Magic Mountain ride.
On October 20, 2010, Six Flags Magic Mountain officially announced the refurbishment and re-theming of Superman: The Escape, in addition to the construction of two new roller coasters (one of them has since gone extinct). As part of the refurbishment, the ride was renamed to Superman: Escape from Krypton and featured new backward launching cars and a new color scheme. The upgraded ride reopened to the public on March 19, 2011 and to see it, look at the End screen.
We have other videos from Six Flags Magic Mountain, See End screen for the playlist.

0:15 Superman on the top of tower
My parents put 5 year old me on this ride
I remember queuing for so long to ride this back in 1998… It didn't feel worth it even then.
0:16 "Hi superman"
Now this is 1 Cool Ride. π
I lost my weed on this ride back in 1997, it fell out of my pocket in the stall at the top, I was sad and never rode it again….
I remember being so scared to ride this for the first time as a kid when it opened and then it was the most awesome 10 seconds ever
I hate that they turned the trains around now…a forward launch is SO much better.
Does anyone remember the commercial with the penny floating in mid air for a couple seconds on this ride?
This ride looked WAY bigger in Rollercoaster Tycoon 2.
Weak.
This looks rlly rlly scary
I wish one side had the backwards launch and the other side to have the forwards launch
I remember when it used to go forwards instead
Yo what is the difference between this original ride and the new one we see today as it is I know they painted it but is there a legitimate difference cuz the one weird thing nowadays is that even there are 2 tracks on the ride they only use 1 now for some odd reason
I remwmber getting on this ride when I was 18.. back in '99.. my friend forced me to get on it with her and I was terrified. I closed by eyes and quickly stomped my feet during the drop down.. it kinda helped.. π
This is the way I remembered the ride, for a really long time. I still have fond memories of getting to marathon this ride if you showed up at the right time of day. We'd get on it like 3-6 times back to back before the queue began to get too long for our patience lol. I recently rode it again for the first time in over 12yrs, literally this past Friday for my 35th birthday weekend, and it is so different now. New paint job, Superman no longer awaits you at the top of the tower, and it now seems to permanently launch backward rather than forward. I do miss this version, but the new tweaks they've made to it in the last decade or so, have also been fun! I rode in the front seat, so I'll have to return again and ride from the very back row to get that extra weightless feeling. 418ft drop, realizing that now, I think I'd be able to do Kingda Ka (seems a bit intimidating when I first watched it, but I think I wanna do it lol). I'll have to make my way out there to Jersey when I've fully recovered from surgery. Perhaps some time later this year.
Very proud to still have Six Flags Magic Mountain as my home park from the chain. Los Angeles Native here! I'm always so excited to talk to newcomers about the park and some of its fascinating history and trivia! Hope you guys from outside of California can make the trip here one day if you haven't already! I promise you'll love it here! Greetings! βπΌπβπΌ

Instead of the operator asking us for the countdown, he was like βYou guys want a countdown?β Then instantly launches us as soon as someone said yes
Superman: GUYS I CAN HELP YOU
Also Superman: π
