Akihabara is a unique aspect of Japanese popular culture, famous as a geeky place to find the latest electrical and electronic gadgets and junk, and as the center of otaku culture, including anime and manga.
Akihabara is home to a wide variety of electronics retailers, ranging in size from small stores selling only one type of appliance to large electronics retailers like Best Buy in the United States. First-time visitors to Akihabara will enjoy simply window shopping for products that interest them. There are also many duty-free stores with English and Chinese speaking staff. We hope you enjoy your shopping experience.
Akihabara is also famous as a mecca for Japanese otaku, with moe anime, maid cafes, and other otaku specialties not found in other cities.

Akihabara flourished as an inn town during the Edo period. The Kanda River served as a logistics hub, and the town has long been considered a gathering place for people and goods.

After the war, a market for street vendors was formed. Since there was an industrial university nearby, the market began to deal in gadgets such as radio parts.

The number of households buying radios and televisions increased, and the number of electronics retailers also grew. Eventually, Akihabara became known as “Electric Town.

In the late 1990s, it gradually transformed into a town for computer enthusiasts. However, not a few people enjoyed shopping in Akihabara for anime, games, figures, and cosplay.

Naturally, the number of stores selling goods related to these activities also increased. Eventually, Akihabara, known as the paradise of otaku and pop culture, was born.
