We spent the day on a boat, touring the Kenai Fjords National Park, hugging the coastline within the Park. It was a day filled abundantly with wildlife, stunning scenery, meeting new people, and indulging the sensations. Whether one preferred the warmth and comfort of the cabin, or the experience outside, or both, it was a splendid excursion. The narration was excellent. The staff on board were ready to assist. The captain was quick to identify wildlife, even hearkening to guests’ own beckoning. We saw humpback whales, a gray whale (highly unusual for the time of year), sea lions, puffins, bald eagles, throngs of various sea birds, sea otters, porpoise, goats, and TONS more! I truly don’t have the vocabulary to describe what it’s like to witness such creatures thriving in their own natural setting…and what a setting!

A magnificent experience!

Some details:

The vessel is quite comfortable, equipped with ample heads, refreshments, large windows, a tv screen with real-time map of the journey, and a friendly staff. We enjoyed a nice light lunch and were provided with warm chocolate chip cookies, near the end. This was about a 6-hour ride. I saw folks of all ages and abilities on board; it’s something everyone can enjoy.

It should be noted that sea sickness was not felt by most until the vessel made the return trip to the Seward harbor, when it crossed open ocean waters. Until that time, I did not notice anyone ill or entirely uncomfortable. That being said, I do recommend taking precautions if needed, e.g., ginger/seasick gum, wrist bands, bonine/dramamine, ear patch, etc.
