On January 18th, an Emirates Boeing 777 flying to the US ended up far short of its destination. Touching down in Russia, the aircraft had encountered control problems prompting the diversion. The twinjet landed St Petersburg, having changed its requested destination several times along the way. Let’s take a closer look at what happened…

  1. For the past eight years, Emirates has been operating the Airbus A380-800 to San Francisco. They are probably using the 777 due to the low demand during the pandemic.

  2. Another Boeing 777 Emirates problem??? …. Looks like I'm cancelling my trip with them in march

  3. I was on an emirates 777 in 2017 Feb from Dubai to Trivandrum. Over Arabian Sea, with the closest airport being Muscat, as I could make out from the flt path on the screen, we heard an announcement from the pilot that there is some technical problem with the aircraft and the flt is being diverted to Karachi in Pakistan.the flt path on the screen went blank. The flt was as smooth as it was before the announcement throughout. The landing at Karachi was a very smooth touch down.i couldn’t make out any problem with engine as the flt was without any unusual roll or pitch or vibration.

Emirates had just commissioned their maintenance facility in Karachi around that time and I strongly feel that the diversion of our flt was stage managed by emirates to carry out some maintenance of that plane without incurring large expense.isn’t it cheaper to send a plane to a service centre with pax, make them wait in the terminal for 6 hours, and resume flt in the same aircraft to their final destination.?

  4. How would the airline handle the passengers??? They wouldn't have a Russian visa so how would they get them to a hotel??? Are there hotel rooms at the airport??? I think it would be an adventure landing in a country I had no intentions of visiting??? Emirates once put me up in a hotel in Dubai because the flight from JFK was delayed and I missed the continueing flight to Thailand…..Thanks Emirates for a chance to tour Dubai….and thanks for the video…

  5. If Emirates spins the incident to pre-emptively blame Boeing in order to cancel 777 orders, then Emirates has lost the plot. Other airlines have not faced these problems with the 777, even if they plan on retiring them like Etihad

  6. You said absolutely nothing useful. What went wrong? What did the crew do right? What could they have done better? Could maintenance be improved etc. Of course you don't know so it's a video of nothing

  7. Not the first incident lately. In December it was a near crash after take off, then a near collision on the runway in DXB and now this.

  9. What has happened with the 777 and Emirates this incident and the incident that the aircraft couldn’t take off until the safety zone????

  10. I think I will avoid Emerates for a while. Several serious incidents recently with strange command decision being made in each.
Makes you wonder about their standard off safety culture.
No information equals their smoke and mirrors çulture!??

  11. Let's see… take of from Heathrow, encounter control issues, then divert to St. Petersburg, which is 3 times further away than Heathrow

Given how a "bomb scare" diverted a Ryanair flight to Putin's backyard, one has to wonder the real cause for this flight to be diverted to Putin's frontyard
