What is it like commuting by bike to work in Japan? I cycle to work every single day (200km a week) and today on the cycling Japan series, I’ll be sharing my full bike commute home after work, which is a 20km route.

I tried to film this video last week, but ended up getting 2 flat tires and experienced one of the negative points of commuting by bike.. Since then I invested in a new patch kit and some handy accessories for commuting. Thankfully, today’s ride home went smoothly with some beautiful weather and a nice sunset 🙂

Here are some of the items I use in this video..

  1. I plan on doing a ~25 km commute when I finally move so this is pretty good motivation since it'll be very similar to what I'll have to do. Great video. I love the channel!

  3. I am Japanese live in Canada. (14 years)
My wife is Filipino and we speak English each other. When you said neither of us is native.. that reminds me of myself.
I miss Japan I used to bike to school back in the days.

  4. i might be mistaken, but i think those are anti-tank thingies there at 07:00
    cheers from germany, great content!

  5. Mr Two Wheeler! I'm cycling vicariously through your video, on my indoor stationary recumbent. Too cold and snowy to ride here right now. Colorado. Just curious as to how fast (mph please) you are going on those long straight stretches. Looks like u r pedaling very fast. A lower gear? On stretches like those, I put mine in the highest gear. Works my legs more, I think, but I am a novice rider, and I am probably wrong about that. Great video!! 🙂

  6. Loved playing this whole video in the background as I work on my engineering drawings and designs. Thank you <3

  7. I live on the coast near wetlands so my bike commute looks very similar. It's only 5.8 miles mostly trail and I only have to go on one main road that is very wide so I'm very fortunate!

  8. Great scenes. But just out of curiosity, do you ever enjoy yr rides cos all you talk about is been cautious and always telling Thoungchan what to do and how to ride etc. I understand the lifestyle in japan is a big influence and everyone is scared, quite, orderly but I really think you do everything by the book even more than a Japanese person. Still like yr clips though, maybe do some clips with speed and real fun. The other sites of Japan.

  9. Hi TWC! New to the channel and I absolutely love your content! I wish I could commute like that every day to work too, but the cyclist accident rate is really high in my country so it's mostly reserved for recreation purposes only.

btw where's that "wife's dinner" that you promised?! HAHA kudos to both of you!

  10. You have no idea how much I rewatch this video over and over again! So relaxing and the ambience of Japan just hits different

  11. It's nice how you keep as close to the side as possible. Cyclists in Australia like to ride in the middle of the road some times blocking traffic.

  12. I was looking forward to seeing your wife’s cooking at the end but oh well

  13. After watching your latest video where you mentioned you are considering as a real possibility returning to Japan, I had to come back and watch one of the older videos of your commutes in Japan for nostalgia sake. I really enjoy the chatter.
