We had an engine emergency while sailing as a result of a loss of oil pressure (1988 Perkins 4108 diesel engine). Also, see how deserted Thailand’s Redlight district is, along with other popular tourist destinations because of the Pandemic: Patong Beach, Bangla Walking Street (sex tourism), Big Buddha, Wat Chalong Temple.

  1. Pleased to see your safe, 1 day this world madness will be over, and we can all go back to normality, thanks for sharing, regards.

  2. Yes been waiting for you to drop a new video. 😀 Brilliant after a day of homeschooling.
Great teamwork with the engine. Shocking to see how quiet Phuket is. What experience to have the place to yourself. Lovely video. Nice to see the water so clear. The earth having time to heal. In these crazy times. Beautiful sky. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe. Take care.

  3. Thumb up for not beeing afraid of getting your hands dirty. As we saw already when you were climbing the rock for rescuing the drone. You two are a great team!

I started in Pukhet to a dive safari to the north a couple years ago. Don't recognize that place anymore…

  4. Dannnnnnnng! Another great video with struggles, victory, adventures and gorgeous views! And of course, perfect music selections for each phase 🤙😊Keep on rocking it and living life to the fullest my friend! We're heading back to the Caribbean tomorrow, should (fingers crossed) be in Thailand late this year.🤙😎🏴‍☠️🙏😘

  5. What an impressive movie you made. Amazing !! I am so happy to watch it from Europe. Hope to meet you guys at Phuket soon.

  6. Love the way you calmly set about fixing the engine in 2 shakes with your trusty gopro ! Only a very capable woman would make the cut!

  7. Must be devastating for the locals the lack of tourists.Last time I was in Phuket the budha was under construction we sponsored some bricks that were used.Excellent videos keep them coming cheers

  8. You have strong momentum. Glimpses of your life have me reflecting on hummingbird medicine, They migrate across oceans reminding us to "drink deeply from life's nectar for the long journey". Highest Blessings

  9. Hmmm, you should have replaced the oil heat exchanger while you were at it. Their life span is estimated at 15 years IF well electrically bonded to the sacrificial zincs…but rarely are. The heat exchangers are widely available and cheaper than the hoses you replaced and are one of the most common reasons for water getting into the oil. If you find the oil pressure rising and open the engine room to see gray foam coming out of the dipstick, after you empty the oil/water mix from the engine, and refill with 1 litre of kerosene and cheap automotive oil, turn it over for only a few seconds then take off the oil heat exchanger and replace it. Now continue emptying, refilling and running till warm until no white streaks in the oil. Finally fill with the 15-40 HD oil, and if you have been getting a lot of low compression smoke lately, start using good old Lucasfilm in place of 25% of the oil – starting revs and compression will both rise. I have lost count of how many marine diesels I have needed to assist with oil in water problems, but to date I have never failed to get one running again, they are generally tough beasts.
Ps – if there is a hydraulic transmission you'll find an identical heat exchanger on it, swap both!

For all of you out there wondering why us aging male single hand cruisers always seem to find agile young female mates, it's because of our knees. Crawling into tight spaces to swap a fridge compressor or pulling a starter just seems so much easier when we hand our mate the tool and say "Undo that bolt there, honey…excellent dear"

  10. The lower than optimum oil pressure more than likely is caused by extensive damage to the main and rod bearings which happened when the engine ran without oil in the oil pan. If there is a knock during operation then you must pull the engine out for a rebuild before the crank gets damaged beyond repair or a rod breaks loose and puts a hole in the engine block. If there is only a slight oil pressure lose but no knock, then use some oil stabilizer like the Lucas brand, but a rebuild might just spare you from a nasty surprise at the worst of times. Hoses need to be replaced regularly just as belts and impellers, or this kind of 💩 undoubtedly happens at some point !

  11. Hate to say it , but kinda like the fact the Red Light district was empty. By no means am I a prude, but Thailand takes it a little to far. In my opinion, of course.

  12. Yes I enjoyed Phuket went up there for a wedding very friendly people
The gardens and Temples were worth the visit

  13. I know i'm a little late, but it actually is in the manual that tells, "Do Not Use Synthetic oil but just regular" as i have an old Perkins as well…. Although its more and more difficult to find now a daysas most isfull or half synthetic. So your inside of the motor also have wear now.. Please keep this in mind for small seal inside the motor.

  14. OMG, You made it out of Portland. I'm sitting in a 45' motorsailer w dead engine and hydraulic steering issues near west end Portland airport runway arrrrg!
Nice problem solving on diesal, perkins are pretty reliable. But once you've isolated problematic system electrical, fuel, air, lube, driveline. Then you proceed same with subsystem, weakest/cheapest parts lines, gaskets/seals, bearings, pump. Allways carry enough spares parts to rebuild that sucker. If the gopro hadn't worked, replace lines first. But you nailed it by then, nice work. PS. You ain't missing anything in Portland, I like Or. but am in process moving back across river to Wa.
