Plan a better trip than me if you go to the land of Avatar, Zhangjiajie, China. From crowds, to scams, to mattress shops, this trip was one of the worst ones I’ve taken There is really no need to go with a tour to visit this place in China. Chinese people will be the first ones to tell you to be careful about scams. Watching this travel scam video and protect yourself so you come back from your trip with good memories instead of regrets.

  1. China is a great place to travel, but Chinese people will be the first ones to tell you to be careful of scams. Most of the time it’s Chinese people being scammed by other Chinese people, but this time I got on a bad tour as well. For Zhangjiajie I recommend going solo.

  2. ❤️安明,你是不是去过汉语桥这个节目?在中国游玩除了用Airbnb, Ctrip,马蜂窝这些App. 也可以咨询一些当地的朋友! Never join-in Group Tours!!

  3. Haha true. Made your own itinerary is the best. If you can tag like 2-4 friends along it will be better. Find your own stay is more fun with airbnb. Hahahaha. Lastly you look exactly like Taylor Swift there. Dang. I had never seen your old looks b4 yet.😂🤣🤭👻

  4. When you join a low fee tour group in China, almost everybody in China knows you will have to pay some extra money beyond the group tour fee, it's just like you go to a restaurant in US, tips is unavoidable – the best way is to go there by yoursel or with a few friends together, and do not go there in tour season.

  5. What you said is absolutely the truth. In some previous real cases, the tour guide will force these tourists in a tour group to buy some souvenirs in the shop of this scenic spot, and if some tourists refuse to buy, then the tour guide will say something very rude to them, even insult them. In some very extreme cases, the tour guide and some tourists were involved into fighting and quarreling. In addition, it is really not a good idea to go to travel in the national holidays in China because there are so many people in these popular tourist attractions, and it will spoil your mood of your entire trip.

  6. 太同意你的,节假日绝对不进去玩。首先景点都是人人人,其次住宿格外贵贵贵,再则道路基本堵堵堵,最后消费经常坑坑坑。

  7. For all those bargain hunting foreigners: Beware there are at least 3 levels of tourist groups. Most of the time you got what you paid for. 1. Cheap, "bargain" group – you may expect to spend significant amount of time at the merchandise selling seminars. That's how they make up their expenses. 2. "luxury" group – you may expect some time at the merchandise selling seminars. May be 50% less than the bargaining group but you will pay much more up front. 3. Super luxury group with no selling seminar, plus you may even have express privileges to enter some of the most popular and crowded tourist places without lining up for hours – you guessed, you will have to pay a premium price for the service. *Remember: there is no free lunch anywhere in this world.

  8. Quite often the tour guide/company gets a kick-back on all goods sold.
I've been hostage one time on a US tour bus… never again.

  9. I've been on 2 tours to China to accompany my aging father and every time there was some kind of scam going on, including unwanted stops at Chinese medicine and souvenir shops, etc. We learned that the kickbacks may not necessarily go to the tour company but rather to the guide and bus driver who make the call on where to stop based on time and traffic. So on my 3rd time when I took my daughter, we arrived at the desired city and had the hotel set up a private car and guide. It's actually not that much more expensive and you have the freedom to take as long (or as short) as you want and make whatever stops you wanted. Well worth the extra cost for the flexibility and freedom.

Also, I have learned that, much like the Italians, the Chinese have no concept of what a queue is.

  10. Thx for speaking out. We had the same experience in 2008 when we joined a tour. We were taken to a massive store that sell pearls. Man, as soon as we and all the tourists walked in, the sales people wasted no time approaching us to hard sell us. One family member was so annoyed, she just walked away in the middle of her conversation and the sales girl was upset. Your advice re Don't join a tour is right on! It's a scam! And yes, the tour guide gets mad if you bought nothing. Pretty obvious as all of them are on a commission or kickback. I enjoy the trip but the tour leaves a bad taste in my mouth. All my friends back home in Canada that joined the tour said the same thing. So if your tour/flight price is incredibly cheap – watch out.
Btw, your Chinese and Japanese are amazing!

  11. 怎么说呢,其实有些时候看人头也是一种乐趣,国内本地文化就是长假堵车看人头啊哈哈哈

  12. 但是你淡季去国内的那些旅游景点,特别是工作日,基本上没有什么人的都

  13. I would have not been so polite with that tour guide like your friend! I would have definitely spoken my mind! So sorry you had to go through that nonsense.

  14. That place looks absolutely stunning, I'd love to go visit but not really a fan of the tourist overload, not many places that are devoid of humans. It sounds as if the guided tour was a blatant scam rip off, set up just to fleece everyone and screw them over, shameful. It would be magical to go see that place in the middle of the night all lite up.

  15. What i like about tasmania is 25% of my state is world heritage listed national park, over 70% is national park. And all accessible

  16. My in-laws are Chinese and got ripped off on a tour in PRC. It was just like you described. They picked the cheapest hotels and restaurants.

  17. Discovered Chinese New Year visiting the Royal Palace in Bangkok. I arrived just before 20 buses of Chinese tourists. Felt like the subway.

  18. Earth to Pearl. Avatar wasn't film there. Cameron probably shot some environment scenes there and model the Avatar jungle after it.

  19. hm.. generally Chinese got a low quality personality to treat others. for the advanced country requires a high national character in fundamentally but Chinese are lack it. ah! one more thing, your Chinese ability may be have a bright future ahead if one belt one road project is connected through continental from the Korean peninsula. I think there's a lot of task remained to solve but I hope to gonna be deal with it soon 😄

  20. Too bad all that happened to you and your friend, because as you said that place looks truly beautiful and impressive. The only issue I would have there is that I don't do well with highs, when you pointed with your camera to the deep fall, I was like "oh, hell no!". I wouldn't be able to even get close to the railing without feeling I'll die 😅

  21. 因为你视频中提及的这些由于旅行社而产生的问题,作为中国人的我,在节假日也宁可待在家里。这些人真的是给中国丢脸。

  22. I spent 5 months travelling around China, mostly focusing on the countryside.
I can only 100% be sure I paid more than I should of when I was travelling by local bus to the Great Wall. I got off too soon, landing in a one shop village & attempted to get the rest of the way by taxi. I had to pay extra for my mistake 😅
I felt safe & accomodated as a solo female traveller with a backpack & just hello & goodbye in Chinese.
From China I ferried into Keelung Taiwan, arriving on Chinese New Year with no accommodation booked. I too had no idea that everything would be booked out. Slept in a 24 hr internet business.
Taiwan is bliss… especially the islands of mainland.
