Shinjuku is without a doubt one of the busiest areas of Tokyo in Japan. With no less than 15 lines of trains and subways passing through Shinjuku station, there are more than three million passengers every day treading the floor of its corridors.
The numbers can be scary at first, but once there, you will see that the sensation of high density is the same in many other stations in the capital.
Shinjuku is a quasi-obligatory passage for millions of Japanese, and for most tourists. This is the main point of arrival for the latter, and many Westerners keep a very strong impression of it because of its excessiveness. When you live in another big Asian megalopolis like Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong, you are necessarily less impressed.
