Seikan Tunnel is a railway tunnel in Japan that connects the main island of Honshu with the northern Hokkaido island.
It is a double track dual gauge tunnel (standard gauge & narrow guage) with a total length of 53.85 km out of which a 23.3km long stretch is under the sea bed of the Tsuragu Strait that runs between Honshu and Hokkaido islands.
At its deepest point, the tracks are 240m below the sea level.
Shinkansen trains operate at a reduced speed of 160 km/hr inside the Seikan Tunnel.
