Bad Cruise Ports Where Cruise Passengers Won’t Get Off The Ship And Why As cruise ships become even more exotic in their design and ammenities, ports of call are having a tougher time attracting passengers. More and more passengers on cruises are not bothering to even get off of their cruise ships unless they have an excursion booked. Security is the number one reason that travellers say they would rarther stay on their cruise ship along with the “been there done that” excuse. A lot of repeat customers of cruise lines have found that once they visit a port of call, the second visit isn’t as interesting or they had a bad experience the last time out and would rather just stay on board the ship and be spoiled by the ship’s staff, ammenities, food and drink. With private resort islands now becoming more common on cruises, the passengers are deciding that they would rather go on shore in a secured area. Especially families with children. Disney is now building it’s second private island getaway and Royal Caribbean just opened up it’s expanded Perfect Day at Coco Cay, a $250 million waterpark. #carnival #royalcaribbean #norwegian #celebrity #princess #hollandamerica #msc #disneycruises #cruiseshipnews #caribbeancruisenews #nassau #ochorios #progreso #puertovallarta #travellingwithbruce

  1. The only port I had any reservations about was Sihanoukville, Cambodia. We got bused in from the dock to the main market in town and we were met by what can be best described as a horde of people. No one wanted to get off the bus until my wife, who is ethnic Chinese from Singapore, grabbed my hand and walked straight through the crowd into the market. That broke the logjam for the rest of the bus. We had a good time there, as it turned out. She got a durian at the local market (not my cup of tea), then we headed to the local beach and got a two hour massage for something like $5US. And my wife bought some “jewelry” from the cutest little 8 year old con artist you’ll ever meet while she was getting her massage.

We cruised by Mexico and the Carib before and never felt particularly unsafe. But that was before the drug violence invaded some of those ports.

  2. Who needs to discover the destinations you paid to see when you can enjoy the exotic pleasures of a hot dog on a floating theme park.

  3. I wish an American flagged Hawaiian line would return. Did American Hawaii in 91. The Captain got us so close to the lava meeting the ocean you could smell the sulfur!

  4. To me, staying on the ship is the destination itself. Ports of Call, after a while, look all the same and boring. Days in port are actually more fun because one has the whole ship to themselves, sans the normal activities. But if it is quiet and solitude you want, days in port are good days to be in the ship.

  5. Been to Jamaica several times in the last 35 years, first time was when I graduated high school. Never have had a problem with the locals and took offense at how Jamaica was presented.

  6. Wish I had seen this before our Bahamas trip last week. Nassau was worse than described here. We were upset that Carnaval wasted our time here. I can’t believe they expose their passengers to this without warning. Nothing in the port area except construction. Then your hammered on every 50 feet for your money. From drugs to cons you get no relief until your back into the secured area where there is nothing open. You have better odds in the casino.

  7. Never understood why Cruise ships stop in Vigo- there's nothing there except scruffy duty free shops. it must be cheap to dock there!

  8. Don’t forget that all these stuff costs “extra money 💰 “ so your $2,000 7 day cruise costs an extra $500-$700 minimum per person so in addition to the Port of Calls those sea days will cost you !!

  9. I disagree about Puerto Vallarta, I felt very safe at the malecon & on the ride back and forth. I saw a few police trucks but I didn't see anyone with machine guns anywhere around the port. a lot of timeshare salesmen though

  10. Nassau was terrible with people trying to sale you things and on an excursion someone tried to steal my backpack ,never again. Edit i have walla walla 1$ 5$ on the island burned into my brain.

  11. First time at Progresso, the dock was in a shipping area away from everything. Now there’s a new dock close to beaches, shops and restaurants. It’s very pleasant now.

  12. Add the port of Belize to this list. Also a walled/razor-wired port with dudes with machine guns around. I stepped off the ship for about 15 min and promptly went back on. No. No. No.

  13. Cruise ships are sketchy as hell. They are companies that by and far treat their employees like crap. Have a reputation for ignoring crime to outright covering it up. They get away with it by flying flags of convenience which in turn has the benefit of muddling who should be investigating (country wise) to begin with. The most frequent crime? Sexual assault.

  14. One had to choose the right ports in the first place. I would never go to west carribean Most rt in mexico are not safe; mzalan, Putter Valla.

  15. Jamaca harassed constantly and people try to shake you down as soon as you get off the ship. After 15 minutes our whole group went back to the ship. Not fun.
