When I first discover Brompton Cemetery, I fell in love instantly with the spiritual atmosphere and the friendship of squirrels🐿

Brompton is one of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemeteries established in the 19th century. These large spaces were created outside central London to cope with the demands of a rapidly-growing population. In 1838 the architect Benjamin Baud won a competition to design the cemetery, and he created a neoclassical marvel of sweeping colonnades, symmetrical features and the crowning glory of a chapel rotunda.

Nestled among the spectacular trees and undergrowth are over 35,000 gravestones and monuments. The cemetery is alive with the amazing stories of all the people buried there since the 1830s, including some well-known names like Emmeline Pankhurst and John Snow.

If you want to learn about Brompton’s rich history, go for a stroll, grab a cup of coffee or just sit in quiet contemplation, Brompton Cemetery is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of West London.
