Husqvarna 701 Enduro – 2018 – Street legal dirt bike!
I wanted to ride this bike from a long time, but finally I have got this chance. I know that it’s a different category and have nothing common with the light touring motorcycles I have tested so far, but I added here because of it’s weight. It is only 149kg, which makes it a lightweight travel motorcycle. It is coming with WP suspension, fully adjustable, manually and great engine – 690cc-75 H.P. Of course as anything else it has some cons. The tank is only 13 l and the dashboard is simple. Because it has no windscreen and speed above 120km is really uncomfortable. It could be converted to a real adventure motorcycle, but it won’t be cheap and will add some additional kg to the bike. Windscreen, big tank, maybe luggage rack and many more.

I Rode my 701 from London UK to Cadiz Spain which is 1428 miles or 2298 kilometres which was mostly highway. I was dreading the idea of the trip but was plesently surprised. At 70mph or 120/130kph the bike was easy to ride and the wind exposure wasn't unbearable. Now this is far from the first bike I'd choose to for such a journey but it can be done and it does so much better than you would imagine. Fairing kits are available for the 701 if you are looking for more wind protection but I'd say as standard the air exposure is clean and you are exposed to very little buffeting. The engine is smooth and vibration was low due to the short stroke motor. My previous bike was a 2004 KTM 950 adventure. The motor on the 950 for me had more prominent vibration. As for fuel range, at 70mph or around 120 kph you will get 130 miles before the reserve light comes on I'd say about another 30/50 miles untill empty but I'm not sure as I didn't dare to chance it. Anyhow auxiliary fuel tanks can be purchased for the 701 which allow for extended range. For me this bike is an awesome machine and few will be disappointed. I'd say if most of your miles are done on the road and you are used to riding a machine such as the r1200gsa then the 701 will feel a little crude but that's the price you'll have to pay for a more off road biased machine. I love mine and look forward to many more miles on mine.
getting mine in a few days – whats your licence plate holder solution? – looks much better than the original
Beautiful bike, this and also the 690,but, a lot a lot a lot of problems, i can wrote you a book with the problems that i found every week
Now you have tested an enduro bike on tarmac. Next for example a BMW RR1000 in the woods, please. 🙂
Precio de la motolineal ???
I thought Germans don't break traffic laws.
Any thoughts on the KLR 650?
What amazed me most of this bike was the suspensions. You could rider over a car and barely feel it. What I didnt like was the engine overheating as soon as I was in the city. Seat is very thin, but the suspensions compensate a lot for the seat.
Picking mine up today!!
Lol im 5"7 and pretty comfortable riding it not like i had a choice to get used to it
You always do great reviews.
Hello
are you sure about the height of the seat ? 88 cm !
i thought it was 91 cm.
What is the vibration like compared to your 660 tenere.
Sei italiano?
Hi Pavel. 701 with rallykit (28L fuel capacity) and luggagerack has a total weight of 165kg without fuel.
When you get KTM 690 eduro ?
Great video, thanks for posting. I just got a 701 (2018) and 2 days later did 1500 mile trip half on road and half off road, and I LOVE THIS BIKE.
I ran with big side gas tanks, a tusk pannier rack and mosko moto backcountry 35 panniers with backcountry 40 liter duffle as well as a seat concepts seat and man i can NOT stop riding this machine.
I wanted a 690 just because the look of it but this came available to me and actually is better motor than same year ktm .
So easy to manuever and you are right it will wheelie in any gear if you want.
Awesome overland bike and so fun!
Nice honest review! thanks.
Excelent demo ride analisis Pavlin! You just made my day with your test drive and coments.
How tall are you?
Saludos desde México
What bike do you own?
yamaha tenere 700 or husqi 701?
Well done!
I'm 150kgs ,so would I be too heavy for this bike?
Pavlin , how would you compare the performance and stability on the freeway as compared to the Adventure R / S . Right now I have the opportunity for a good deal on a lightly used 17 701 . You quick reply would be most appreciated . thank you for all you do Sir . Your comments carry much weight with many of us .

"I really enjoy it! It is great bike, but too expensive and not reliable."
Please elaborate . I am not currently aware of reliability issues …so far
Does it shows fuel light for low fuel in tank?
Hi Pavel i have 2016 model and just few more comments More :cons 1)The exhaust muffler gets very hot 2)Light is lousy at night 3)handlebar clamp ( in the middle) produced of soft Aluminium and with one drop of the bike it will bend like a plastic.
I seen comments from other reviews from riders saying these bikes are notorious for engine oil leaks, is this the case ? otherwise i will buy one
Nice and concise video.
A little biased in places, but a job well done.
There is now an updated version with two tanks. The LR gives a stated range of 500Km which removes the range issue. Do we know anymore about the reliability of this bike? It’s becoming a favourite of mine.
You Star Pavlin, another great review
Ready to race in a parking lot. Husqvarna should be sued for false advertisement. For a real race you need to invest a few thousands euro more. Quality control also is a letdown. In 2020 false neutrals are still a reality. How is this possible for such an expensive motorcycle ?
Pavlin, don't worry about upsetting people you will gain more credibility.
I know, it's an old vid Pavlin,
but what do you think about the 'new' 701 LR ? Maybe add a windshield. Ready for long adventures ?
I am considering the 701 LR or the Yamaha T7. The 701 LR weights 50 kgs less!
That's a big plus in my book. Am also 185 cm
Hi PZ, how does this 701 compare to the ktm 690? Your video on that bike, though great for off road, might not be good for other parts of the travel. Is this Identical? Thanks.
I heard that Husky’s have Twice the warranty than KTM
5 to 6 L100km???????? That s a loooooooot bro!!! 3 to 3,5 L maaax …solo ride in 6 gear 90kmh costant speed ..I m 100kg
5,5L 140kmh is ok but in normar ride….no
Sorry it’s not a review of enduro bike. Btw great off road skills jumping these scary one inch pavement edges and driving on the patches of grass 🤣. Leave enduro to people who do it
